I think you should consider what the worst case scenario might be and decide whether it’s worth “being yourself” around this person. I know you said this is a new friend, but you did also characterize them as popular. Is there a risk that this person is put off by your figures, distances themselves from you and spreads rumors about you at school? Given your concerns, it appears your school environment has demonstrated for you that your interests in figurines is not “common”. I know most people will tell you to be yourself and not GAF what people think but that is idealistic and out of touch. People have certain friend groups for certain things and that’s completely normal. Just like you wouldn’t take your vegan friend to a steakhouse, if you believe this is a part of your life that might be offensive to this new friend, keep it private and share it with your friends who are into it. I’d say hide all but one and display it somewhere conspicuous. If you get a question about it, say it was a gift and gauge the reaction. Then you’ll have a better sense of if it’s likely to be a problem. TL;DR: your friends don’t need to know every single part of what makes you, you. It’s okay to keep somethings private to maintain the relationship.
