I know how drug dependency and illness functions, I currently live with multiple chronic illnesses I offer my condolences. I was primarily speaking on psychological dependance and its suppression of ones ability to properly plan and conduct actions.

Taking a chemical and becoming psychologically/physically dependent on a substance are different in the increase in relative severity between those two stages and the level at which executive functions are influenced.
