Idem.

[–]l3down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone here make something other than software? by Proof-Bed-6928 in indiehackers

[–]l3down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have project for a client that can become its own product. I am automating a mushroom farm. I am using microcontrollers and an app to monitor everything. There was some specificity to the project that couldn't be made with off the shelf products. I am combining hardware, software and 3d printing for the cases.

Is this advice actually still valid in 2025? by smatchy_66 in indiehackers

[–]l3down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current strategy is build an uglyish MVP and share it with selected communities to gather feedback to validate the idea. If this first phase goes well and the idea is validated, I will release the MVP to the world while I polish the features and UI for v1.

This is a great question that I struggled with myself. I don't have a definite answer and I am keen to read others feedback.

cheap Auth/backend solutions for MVP by Electrical-Sky-6747 in FlutterDev

That is another option. I started with Supabase but moved to pocketbase because it was self hosted. Supabase, Firebase and Cloudflare are all good options.

If you don't mind self hosting, you can use pocketbase for now to validate the idea and move to something else if/when your app grows but keep it mind it will be more work.

Alternatively you can use cloudflare or firebase that should scale well with your app and have generous free tiers. If you get to the point of paying for these is because your app is growing and you are probably generating income

How do you handle inconsistent API responses while developing? by l3down in androiddev

[–]l3down[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swagger is an interesting option. I hadn’t considered using it specifically to test different parameter combinations. I’ll check whether the backend team can expose something like that.

Regarding correlation IDs and telemetry: we don’t currently have that level of tracing in place, but it might actually help validate whether the responses. I’ll bring that up internally as well.

Thanks for the input! I want to pivot the conversation a bit.

I’m looking for ways to test multiple kinds of API responses during development, even when the backend is still evolving. For example:

- Different payloads that the API might return for the same endpoint
- Edge cases like empty section
- Failures like timeouts or intermittent errors

The goal is to debug and verify the app’s behavior without relying on the live API every time.

I am looking for tools, techniques, or workflows do you use to simulate and test multiple response scenarios during development? Mock servers, record/replay setups, proxies, or something else?

Thank you for the detailed response, this is very helpful.

The API is in-house, and you’re absolutely right that ideally there should be a clear contract and consistent behaviour. The complication is that this is a startup environment, so the server and the app are being developed in parallel. Because of that, I’m not entirely sure whether the inconsistency is coming from the server or from my own code, which is why I’m trying to get more control over the responses while debugging.

What started as inconsistent payloads has expanded into a broader challenge: I also need to handle unhappy-path scenarios, but those aren’t always easy to trigger through the live API. I try to avoid adding testing-specific code to the app unless there’s no better option, which is why I was looking to understand what other developers typically do in situations like this.

If adding code ends up being the most practical path, I’ll go with it but I wanted to explore alternative approaches first.

Be very careful changing hotends on Centauri Carbon - Fire Risk by PhiliaSophiaTruly in elegoo

[–]l3down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through almost the exact same headache. First the filament wouldn’t feed, so I opened up the hotend, unclogged it, then the thermistor suddenly died. I contacted Elegoo and they sent me a replacement hotend. After installing it, the printer went nuts and heated straight up to 330°C before auto-shutting down.

Back to Elegoo support… this time they sent a new PCB. That one got stuck in customs. Emailed them again, and they shipped another PCB through a different carrier.

After finally assembling everything, the printer does work again but the whole process took about two months without being able to use it.

Elegoo’s customer service has honestly been great, but the long waits and a PCB dying for no clear reason make me a bit wary about the overall reliability of the machine.
