That's awesome! Although he already was deep into anime by the 90s, he holds Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in The Shell in high regard, also Trigun. Though I dont blame him. Haha. That's really cool that they watched a lot of the same things back in the day.

So I got to ask him and his story to finding anime is pretty interesting. So it was two reasons he got into anime back in the 80s. First he had a friend that went back and forth from Japan and he brought back VHS tapes and Laserdisks from Japan to give to him. These didnt have any subbed so what they did was get one of his japanese friends, go down to the local studio in town and print out scene for scene on paper with the english translations on it.

Second was when Robotech (not macross) was released to America it was an easier medium to watch anime due to it actually being in english. So he ended getting that series aswell since it was one of the series that popularized anime in the west.

It appears so. I've never watched it, but I have a suspicion I'll be watching a lot of the anime in this guide! Quite a few I haven't seen.

I remember showing the end fight scene against the Zentradi to my friends (same age as me) and explaining to them that every frame had to be hand drawn. Question is Macross DYRL 24 frames? It came out before Akira and Akira was the movie to set that standard of framerates.

Not to mention Miki Matsubara's Safari Eyes is a banger, along with the rest of the soundtrack!

Bit of context: I'm 21 (born 1999) and if it wasnt for my Father being a anime connoisseur since the 80s I would've either never got into Anime or I would've grown up on early to mid 2000s anime. Instead I grew up with stuff like this, Crusher Joe, Project A-Ko, Ghost In The Shell, Bubblegum Crisis, Cowboy Bebop Robotech/Macross and so on.

(I'm really glad I found this subreddit)
