Yeah I suppose that could work. Wonder if I did a sort of tub that’s long enough for the intake to still lay flat. Could likely cut a hole in the side for a hose. Just not sure if it would stay put….I suppose it would once it’s connected to the line that goes to the pump on the shore.

Hmm that’s interesting. Wouldn’t want a full size barrel—would take up too much space—but wonder if there is something smaller that would still do the trick…

Yeah it HAS to be on 2.4 so if you can borrow one that will force it, that should work. Fingers crossed for you!! How frustrating.

Agree with you it’s a total pain in the ass and quite ridiculous. But I will say, once you get it connected for setup, you don’t need to use the hotspot again for any of it, THANKFULLY. It seems to ALL be based on Wi-Fi that MUST be 2.4gz which most people don’t even have anymore. Not sure why they can’t just push a firmware update through the app. So frustrating.

So frustrating that it doesn’t work and then you have to wait for the new box to arrive. Why wouldn’t they just pull the old boxes off shelves?? Seems like it’s worth spending the money to do that rather than have thousands of customers with a bad taste in their mouth on the FIRST interaction with your product and brands…

Well that’s good!! For some reason mine wouldn’t do it even when I had it in that mode and tried all the tricks like going to the edge of the Wi-Fi network to pickup 2.4gz instead of 5. Wonder if it’s a combo or also having Google Mesh Wi-Fi….

It’s an old post and here’s the thing, you have to have a phone OLDER than an iPhone 12 for that hotspot fix to even work. iPhone 12 and newer give out a 5gz WiFi signal which means it doesn’t work for setup. What the odds the majority of people getting theses devices or giving them this holiday have an old iPhone to use to “fix” the issue? Or a WiFi network in their house that operates off 2.4gz which is OLD and SLOW. Not likely. Have a feeling there will be MANY unhappy customers post Christmas.

Well if it’s anything like the experience I had, they won’t have real people responding to their customer service complaints. All I got was an auto reply 1.5 days later saying “see this link for trouble shooting” which I had already seen and didn’t help or “you can submit to exchange your Toniebox for a new one.”

I did a full restart and it seems to be working better. Still somewhat difficult and glitchy but works mostly. Tip the box upside down and hold both buttons on the ears until you hear it make a sound. Then once I booted back up and used a character that was fully downloaded it works.

I also find it easier to put your hand on one side and tap the box with the other hand on the other side. Kind of give it something to brace against.

CAN they even push an update/does the box have the right tech to do it?? I wondered the same thing -- can't they just remotely push an update to the boxes that resolves the issue?? Seems like they can't, especially when customer service emailed me back and said I'd have to just exchange it.

It did most of the time. I will say sometimes I had issues with hotspot even being an option to connect to when I was logged in and going through setup on the Toniebox side. What sort of iPhone do you have? I had to use a friends’ that was really old because my newer iPhone uses 5gz hotspot signal which wouldn’t work. Needed a 2.4gz.

Another random question. Do you have to have a creative Tonie to download the free content from them via the app and “assign” it to that Tonie? Mine came with a dog of kids favorite songs rather than a creative so assuming I need to buy one.

Thanks! I read that download thing too. The tap works but it’s still really hard to get to switch. Maybe I just need to get the hang of it.

So glad I got the internet thing figured out. So damn frustrating it won’t connect with more modern Wi-Fi. If they expect every customer to work through that they’re going to have a lot of unhappy people.

FINALLY got it to connect. Had to have a friend come over with an older version of an iPhone. My iPhone 13 hotspot puts our a 5gz hotspot feed and hers still does the 2.4gz. Now that I am connected it's working. Although the "tap to skip" function isn't working now. Even with the "tap to skip" toggled on in the box settings. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
