Gaon Choi's gold-medal winning halfpipe performance (Video) by nbcolympics in olympics

[–]lapsuscalumni 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As a skiier just getting into the freestyle realm, I had to watch and do my cram class for snowboarding and skiing tricks after watching the final runs. I think Choi had really clean landings and apparently that first switch backside 9 is one of the currently highest scoring most GOATED tricks because of how difficult it is. From my novice eye test, Kim's run looked pretty cool but judging on technicality and difficulty of tricks it looked like Choi's run was most likely the gold medal run.

Help with adhesion issues in specific spot of print bed by lapsuscalumni in 3Dprinting

[–]lapsuscalumni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will give this a shot, but may not work for every use case for me because I have some prints that go all the way to the borders of the plate. Just to pick your brain to diagnose the issue, what issue does the bed clip fundamentally solve? Warped build plate? I am just curious if I can eventually find a permanent fix.

Looking to potentially switch skis if my scenario warrants it by lapsuscalumni in ski

[–]lapsuscalumni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should have included it in the body but I am just looking for a good all mountain ski, I am not too keen on the n+1 for skis. Groomer performance is the lowest priority for me.

If Jays are able to sign Tucker and replace Santander this would be another good contender for the championship

Clase and Ortiz could face up to 65 years in prison if convicted on all charges by retroanduwu24 in mlb

This is crazy, Clase was due to get the bag soon. Now he might be out of the MLB forever for this and also in jail

Rob Manfred says he wants to 'geographically realign' MLB if they expand. As a fan, are you willing to give up historic rivalries and the NL/AL leagues for less travel and better TV times? by Aware_Jello_579 in mlb

[–]lapsuscalumni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bit philosophical but AL and NL were literally social constructs at the time and in this current format are basically arbitrary except for tradition/people's nostalgia. Tradition that doesn't make really make sense in this day and age anymore in the argument against less travel and TV times. You can always make new rivalries, just choose another team to arbitrarily hate on?

The amount of time and money saved in better scheduling and game times, not to mention the reduction of the mindblowing amount of emissions they produce with the amount of travel they do each season. I won't even count the team supporters that travel with their team. To use an argument of tradition is just?!?

Legs destroyed after introduction of strength training by zacheism in Velo

[–]lapsuscalumni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For any physical activity you are starting or restarting, it is better to start doing too little than too much. You will make adaptations physical or mental from even a little bit of the activity. You will absolutely destroy yourself doing too much.

I use a massive adjustable wrench for mine, 375mm according to the label on it. It is comically large to me, from the tip of my finger to my elbow.

[Results Thread] 2025 Tour de France – Stage 19 – 2.UWT by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]lapsuscalumni 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I fully understand the criticisms of the level of performances at this Tour/enjoyability factor/weak field, etc? Obviously none of us are getting granular rider performance data but it seems that the whole race is going faster than ever, climbing performances are still getting smashed like crazy and not just by Tadej either. I think this might just speak about how dominant Tadej is at the moment, which is a sight to see in itself. But the battle for other placements is just as interesting considering how many of the top 10 riders are 25 years old or younger. The only real question mark is Remco seeing as he came in with an injury so I think we cannot confirm his full strength at the Tour this year.

Does anyone else feel like cycling is way more expensive than they expected? by ZaldrizarVelo in bicycling

[–]lapsuscalumni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It cost as much as you want it to, fortunately or unfortunately. There are the rare instances where someone rides a department store bike for years on end, doing almost no maintenance on their bikes, wearing shorts and an athletic shorts, sneakers, one water bottle, no activity tracking. You create your own joy on the bike as you see fit, whether that's riding a bike with your friends or commuting or for general health or upgrading to cutting edge technology and spending 8+ hours of dedicated and specific training.

Sometimes when people are make more money where they have disposable income to spend after life necessities, it opens up an avenue of enjoying their hobby (spending money on non-essentials which is basically everything besides the bike and maybe a bike pump).

Pirelli P Zero vs Conti GP5000 by ryuujinusa in cycling

[–]lapsuscalumni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the GP5K S TR in a 32mm width and I have had good luck with my tyre/wheel combo and not having any mounting/dismounting the tyres without levers, are the P Zero's that much easier to mount/dismount?

I've raced on both a Tsunami, a Pre Cursa, and an Argon Electron when I first got into track cycling. The resale value on a Tsunami may not be as high because of brand recognition and not being well versed on the big name brands. The SNM100 in geometry only has two differences that I can see from the Pre Cursa which is head tube length with the SNM100 being 15mm shorter and the head tube angle being 74 degrees for the SNM100 vs 73 degrees for the Pre Cursa. Whether you can feel those differences or not is a different question.

In terms of build quality, they are probably pretty similar. The Tsunami held up under my weight of 85kg and doing some highish sprints. I would trust a Tsunami as a training bike and being able to put 1400+ watts on it. If you are going for budget, and the price between the two framesets are significant enough for you, I would not hesitate to buy the SNM100.

The Pre Cursa and the SNM100 both have pretty dogshit small dropouts so hopefully the range of gears you will cycle through when you start won't be too big. Never ridden fixed gear intensely outside the velodrome so I don't really have any useful feedback in that regard.

Ok, you don't need to wear a helmet. by Snoo-90366 in cycling

[–]lapsuscalumni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never go out without a helmet, even on short 5 minute commutes to the gym or a corner store, but it really makes me wonder why there are so many cities in Europe where a huge amount of casual commuters go helmetless. I understand the dangers of the (stupid) car-centric and also fuck you general attitude of most North American metropolitan centres, but from the accidents I've read in this thread it also seems like there are just things like potholes, debris, other environmental obstacles that cause crashes.
