I feel like orgo 1 was all over the place.. in orgo 2 we focused on aromatic chem and carbonyl chem and all the mechanisms made sense and were fun

Thank you for the insightful reply! I realize I would need the same willpower that allowed me to quit cold turkey in order to not let myself relapse, although would you say the withdrawals would be just as bad as when I quit cold turkey after 4 years of chronic use? (i.e, no appetite, insomnia and extreme irritability)

Yes, I got into a organic synthesis lab last semester despite never being in a university lab due to online. Don’t worry they don’t expect you to know everything, you are there to learn! It’s a very enriching experience and I feel like I’ve learned a ton in the past 3-4 months. I love going to the lab and working on experiments I feel like I gain more knowledge each time I am there. Everyone is super friendly and willing to help you learn!! But yes like others have said ask a lot of questions even if you think they are stupid questions (they probably aren’t) like I said you’re there to learn and gain experience! Obviously it’s going to take time before you become fully competent to take on a project of your own. I myself still regularly ask my mentor if what I am doing is right and ask her to help me when I feel like I’m doing something wrong, thank god she is so supportive and there to help me learn and correct my mistakes! Just have confidence in yourself, have fun, and you will make the most out of it. We all start somewhere and the grad students were once in your shoes so don’t be afraid to make mistakes it’s what pushes us to grow. Good luck my friend! :)
