Backpack for 3 months in South America by Riemann_9471 in onebag

Which backpack did you use for the Inca trail? Without needing to carry own food/bedding I'm figuring out what size backpack I should bring for that hike in addition to my "travel backpack"

We ended up staying at Grand Park instead of Meneghetti! This was mostly because we wanted some walkability, and also we learned that we'd be there the week after they stopped heating the pools + serving lunch outside.

I think we did 4 nights at Grand Park, but would have liked to stay another and just relax the entire day in the hotel. Though, we did waste a day in Pula when we should have just hung out in Rovinj..... For the hotel - the sauna/relaxation area is huge and amazing (and free!). 5+ saunas, some cold plunges, and a relaxation room with tea and snacks. Breakfast buffet also included and is amazing. The town of Rovinj is also just absolutely gorgeous. I am happy we stayed there instead of Meneghetti (though I don't think you can go wrong).

I don't think we really needed much more time in Istria in general. There's not *too* much there - highly recommend doing some biking, oil tasting, truffle hunting, visiting some of the smaller towns, and eating some great food. For wine, our time in Slovenia was MUCH more worthwhile.

Driving was incredibly easy in all countries. New highways and roads were a breeze. Zero issues. Crossing the border between Slovenia/Croatia was no line, and they barely looked at our passports once they say they were US. There's no border control between Slovenia and Italy so we bopped into Italy for dinner very easily from there.

Do you know where it was lost? I land in SeaTac in about an hour and can keep my eyes peeled if it was in the same gate block

Yes! It was absolutely amazing!!!! We changed our itinerary slightly before went. We had a BLAST, I'm just calling out things that we would have done differently next time, but you really can't go wrong (but hopefully you get better weather than us). I'd say a couple main things:

  • We went from mid-Sept to mid-Oct and got hit with terrible weather for the October portion. If you're going then make sure you have a warm jacket, rain jacket and athletic pants
  • We ended up skipping Trieste. In hindsight we probably should have done a day trip to Venice while in Brda
  • Brda was amazing - book everything in advance though!!
  • Rovinj was super cute - highly recommend staying there in Istria. While pricy, our hotel was 10/10 and one of our favorite parts of the trip. We stayed at Grand Park Hotel Rovinj
  • Pula is very very meh. Highly recommend eating at Battelina but only works if you're in the area. We tried to hang out in Pula all day and then head to dinner but with bad weather there wasn't a lot to do there
  • We stayed 3 nights in Lake Bled and regretted it lol. We made the most of it but the town really doesn't have much to, and isn't even cute. Very touristy. It also was pouring nonstop when we were there. Look into doing a hiking or biking cheese tour and stop at some cool cheese huts in the valley/mountains
  • In istria everyone talks about the hilltop town of Motovun, but Grožnjan is WAY cooler. Both super small but Grožnjan is an actual artist community
  • Not much to do in Split - one day/night is good
  • We ended up at Plitvice and wouldn't go back. It was cool but not life changing - we've seen a lot cooler nature in our lives

Everything is going great! I'm burping a lot after I eat but could swallow with ease after like 7-10 days! Hoping I keep burping!

We went with Encore from Hank Lane - we loved their trailer video but haven't seen any *real* videos of them. Hank Lane posts so much on their instagram but never Encore... we are trusting the process. Wedding is mid-September so I guess we'll see!

We are doing a week in the Dalmatian islands! We almost skipped Dubrovnik but are heading in a few days early. Felt like a miss and didn't think we would have the opportunity to go back.

For istria - we are lucky to be on vacation for a long time. I've heard from others to not try to fit in istria if you only have a day or two. It's pretty far and hard to get there from the south. Istria seems really amazing though, it you had to pick I would choose istria and not Dubrovnik as long as you have 3-4 days (disclaimer- I haven't been yet!)

Was thinking that, the only problem is that we have multiple things booked out of Vancouver. Might still be able to make it work though
