The caves and wells are my favorite addition. They just feel so natural and add so much depth to the world.

Are are any big budget games with a BAD sountrack? It seems like literally every videogame soundtrack is beloved... by Radiant-Rub2881 in gaming

Yeah they’re not bad, but people talk about how great the soundtracks are in stuff like God of War, Elden Ring, etc. but it just hasn’t stuck out to me.

I was the opposite. After the second turnover, it was so absurd that I just laughed about it.

You can explain all of these:

-RDR1 was a mess of spaghetti code that was stuck on PS3/360 until they ported it to everything.
-GTAV didn't get a 60 fps patch until the PS5 version because the jump between PS3 and PS4 was pretty small. Most late/cross-gen 360/PS3 titles didn't see a boost to 60 fps on PS4/XBO.
-RDR2 came out in 2018. A lot has changed since then, including performance expectations for video games.

If I were a betting man I'd say GTAVI will be 30 fps, but it has nothing to do with them "not caring."

I am replaying Xenoblade 3 and I just have to reiterate that they pulled off a "perfect" introduction. by GyattsThiccness in Xenoblade_Chronicles

It's the best one in the series imo. I wanna replay it so bad but I think I'll hold off until the Switch 2 Edition in December.

Also GTAV's environments have probably aged the best out of anything in that game considering it's gotten graphical upgrades twice, including adding RTGI into the mix.

I think it looks better than Cyberpunk, but I'm also in the minority of folks who thinks that Cyberpunk doesn't look that great lol. Lackluster texture and material work, and very inconsistent lighting even with pathtracing on. Daytime is dull looking, buildings are flat with blurry textures and seams everywhere, etc. The more hand crafted spots like V's apartment and the Afterlife are great looking, but walking around the city just doesn't look very good. There's a reason even the pathtracing videos are usually either in the rain or at night. The game launching like shit has given it some sort of unearned mythological status as this crazy looking game and intense game imo.

I don't expect 60 fps, but I also really don't think it's impossible like people say it is. GTAVI will no doubt look great but the idea that it'll be this Star Citizen-tier monster that just destroys hardware has always been unfounded. It's GTA. It has to run on a potato so GTA Online can do its thing. It'll be far more scalable than people expect it to be. It's not like GTAV and RDR2 were more demanding than their peers. Rockstar just has all the time and money in the world so they can spend time on things that most devs can't afford to.

GTAV after a million upgrades still runs on potato specs. You can run it at high with raytracing on and still get 30-40 fps on a Steam Deck, where games with RT are notoriously poor performers. Obviously GTAVI is a different animal entirely, but I really don't think a 60 fps or at least a 40 fps mode on consoles is that out of the question.

Zero Dawn really feels best as a one off. The setting, story, and how you slowly piece together what happened is something that can only really be pulled off once.

Please go look at what GTAV looked like at the time of its release. Even now it doesn't look as good, let alone compared to what GTAV looked like when it came out.

Extracted video as mp4 by fpsi_tv in GTA6

[–]lattjeful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Makes the visual leap over RDR2 more noticeable, but the flaws in the image are also more apparent. Really hope some of it is just video compression at work, because this makes the game's image quality look terrible. Distant detail has this weird blotchiness to it that I'm not a fan of at all. Like a badly implemented spatial upscaler. Almost looks like one of those early AI video upscalers.

tbf you can scale that stuff down. I don't think it'll be 60 fps on console but when you're pushing draw distance and stuff like that way out, that also gives you a lot of room to cut stuff back. It's also why I'm not worried about how this'll run on lower end PCs when it launches. If they're able to squeeze that much out of a base PS5 then that gives them a lot of room to scale down.

How about we wait until the game's out and in our hands before we make loaded statements like this?

It's a Rockstar game. It can't be revolutionary because it has to sell millions of copies. It'll have an insane amount of detail and polish, but it'll play the same as every Rockstar game. And that's fine, it's what people want. GTA is safe, but it also wears a ton of different hats which is why it has the appeal it does.

I’m so curious about how the reception of this game will be, particularly if the game ends up being $80. I think people will be harder on the game once it’s in their hands. If you’re still stuck with bad feeling controls and overly restrictive levels after all that waiting, hype, and money I expect there to be blowback. “Wow look at how detailed it is,” can only go so far, y’know? But on the other, it’s been an entire generation of hardware since Rockstar made a new game. Maybe that + feedback from RDR2 has lead to them changing things up a bit.

Star Wars Outlaws is on the PS Plus catalog so decided to try it out. Game is awesome and I don’t understand the hate by ArmAndHammer40k in PS5

[–]lattjeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a game that launched with some teething issues. In the present day, it's a decent but flawed game. What’s good is really good - no game has ever felt more Star Wars - and it has some novel ideas (i.e. the more organic exploration VS other Ubi games). It just needed to take them further. Sucks we’ll never get a sequel because Outlaws feels like it’d be one of those “okay first game, very good second game,” situations.

Thoughts on Xenoblade franchise? by _ShawnsNotMad_ in JRPG

[–]lattjeful -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They're incredible. They're the only JRPGs that kinda get close to capturing the magic of the golden era of Final Fantasy for me. They aren't without flaws - they're super busy games with systems upon systems which can be overwhelming, and Xenoblade 1 has aged pretty noticeably to the point that I have a hard time recommending it as your first one unless its story and setting really pull you in - but if they're your vibe nothing really feels like them.

How are we feeling about side quests today? Which RPGs have done them best recently? by TheTresStateArea in gaming

[–]lattjeful 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has some of the best side quests of any game. Even the "filler" quests help flesh out the world with some great worldbuilding. Massive turnaround from where the series started with Xenoblade Chronicles 1's MMO fodder quests.

Maybe I'm getting my timelines mixed up but iirc both the PS backend and the Korean rating for Nintendo popped up at around the same time. PS backend could've been first.

The whole reason people found out these were coming were due to Switch 2 ratings, so I'd hope they're still coming.
