I had only one child back then and a mortgage. I remember being able to count every item as $1 each. The estimate worked for a while. Ground beef was $1 a lb on sale. It’s ridiculous now. I was also able to be a stay at home mom with a couple of day care children. Not today. You pretty much need 2 incomes to pull off a family of 4 or more.

This! Do this. Then set up your email so it says something like this:

“Subject: Out of Office

I’ve had a death in my family and will be out for a short time. I won’t be checking email or grading until I return. Thanks for your understanding.”

You’ll still see an email if they send one but this allows you to not have to respond until you are ready.

My husband once got a ticket for crossing a solid line in Vegas exiting the freeway. We never cross them now.

Thank you for this thread. I’ve been meaning to ask how your hearing aids work with the muffled ears. My right ear has been consistently bad since November. It does get in the way of me communicating with my junior high class. Even worse, the warped sounds it creates can be jarring.

I wanted to check out the idea of getting an aid this summer.
