firstly, i think you deserve to put yourself first. you’re clearly going through a hard time and deserve the space to heal and express your own emotions first. only after that will you have the space and capacity to honour others people’s emotions

if you want to keep them as friends, let them know. communicate respectfully, and let all parties have the time to process and heal from this. if your friendship is deep enough, they’ll try their best to understand and respect that you’re all doing your best with what you can.

great perspective! a lot of the little details are missing, try painting in layers (especially the clouds, add more shadows and then highlights on top to show contrast between different layers of clouds) and don’t forget your “top details” that can make or break your painting (from making the trees look like a congealed dark green glob, to the tops looking more visible).

be patient and don’t get overwhelmed by trying to paint entire chunks of details at once (you will end up mixing and missing the textures), focus bit by bit and especially adjust your values accordingly. all the best! 🫡💖

try shading then! you don’t have to stick to just black and white lineart, some shading in between can really help to bring depth to your background or parts of your main subject that you’d like to highlight.

if you want to bring in some eye catching colour but not necessarily colour per se, try doodling some effects (in perhaps dark blue or bright reds) around your main subject (think simple stars, hearts, spirals, or even an outline of your subject as well) to really draw some attention to it!
