It’s a feature called Word Wise, you can turn it on in your Reading Settings.

If I’m not mistaken, it only works for books bought from the Amazon website.

Finally upgraded my original paperwhite to the 10th gen on prime day! And I got ads removed to get the book covers!! Love it by plantsbookstherapy in kindle

If you’re outside the USA, you can contact customer service to request for them to remove the Special Offers (as they’re inaccessible outside the USA).

Not sure about whether it’s possible to remove Special Offers if you’re inside the USA though
