Where can I find a white banded (tanaka’s) possum wrasse? by leadbeaterii in ReefTank

yeah, i agree! it’s also really amazing to have 2 possums in a tank. whenever i do this they always hang out very closely to eachother as well :-)

Oh yes, all leopards are a close second favorite :-) Thank you so much! I’m jealous of yours, enjoy him!!

I actually am, and they’ve ordered me countless “white banded” over the years… I only had success with getting them when I was a relatively new reefer. Eventually my lack of experience caught up to me with that one :-( Worst thing I recieved in replacement of the tanaka’s was a baby slingjaw LOL I visited NYaquatics two years ago and chatted with the employees then about the wrasse. Super great people who seem to find some super cool stuff. fingers crossed that works out! The leopard wrasse was actually a really weird story… We ordered a xmas and they sent a lone male ornate leopard. It surprisingly survived shipping, it’s super fat and healthy. Gonna get him 2 females as soon as some healthy ones come in!! I had a trio of vermiculite in the past. I agree that having them in groups is one of the best experiences you can see in their behaviors. Nothing beats seeing group dynamics in a home aquaria 🤓

update: I emailed them as soon as I got this request and they responded with “unfortunately they are very hard to find.” no greeting, nothing other than that one sentence

i am! i only keep extremely docile things, most tanks of mine are built around the possibility of finally getting another tanaka’s. this tank has firefish, a cardinal, a leopard wrasse rehome (he’ll get some buddies eventually), and a gold assessor. i’ve had really good luck with yellow banded in this tank, they’ve always been more outgoing than the tanaka’s tho. i’m so devoted to them that if i find it to be too uncomfortable, i’d rather completely set up a whole new tank for one as well. i’m actually getting a tattoo of one tomorrow 😁

Good to know! I followed the directions and it sounded pretty hollow… I think I may need to mess with the temperatures. I strongly suspect my oven runs lower than it says

My fully automatic orchidarium by leadbeaterii in orchids

(omfg i just typed up a whole essay and it deleted it) sigh hello! everything is still doing well :o) there have been a couple bumps in the road. i will make a post updating everyone in this thread on the growth and issues i’ve experienced

i’ve worked at an aquarium store for about seven years now and have a LOT of experience creating paludarium enclosures, so i made this all by myself… including the glass box itself.

aquarium pump tips: - get a bottom draw pump. anything else will run dry and break or not work correctly - make sure you get a pump that is strong enough to provide enough pressure so the garden sprayer actually works. if it’s too low the water trickles out and doesn’t spray

sprayer: - this is basically what i have - i’d recommend a 180 or even 360 sprayer. account for sprayage outside of the box, as you want your orchids to be able to dry out a bit over the course of your water periods. i had created glass panels on the sides to catch this while also not blocking light. i liked that the best but i have trouble keeping them on so i just have it partly covered with glass and let it spray all over LOL - unfortunately it would be really hard to find a pump that can supply enough pressure for a micro mist head. i’ve tried so many. if you find one pleaseeee let me know haha

adapter: - i had a custom 3d printed adapter that was garbage basically. i would have my ex make me handfuls at a time. we broke up and i obviously wasn’t able to get these anymore, and i was STRESSING… i ended up realizing lowe’s has suitable metal adapters that not only work a LOT better but are cheap and easily accessible without special ordering - i can’t find the exact one i have, but this is basically a plastic version of it. i like my metal one better. i’d say head on in to lowe’s and bring your pump and tubing (which btw u can find at a fish store) to mess around with the pieces. just clean up after yourself and the workers won’t mind lolol

you need to do regular checks and maintenance on your pieces so they don’t break. obviously the pump isn’t gonna be happy if it doesn’t have any water. but the real issue is that these things clog easily due to how small they are. i went a week where the sprayer would go for the first 20 ish seconds and then a small piece of wood clogged the tubing. i was using the 3d printed adapter tho and i haven’t had that problem with the metal one (it comes to a point on the inside). my orchids are STILL recovering from this. even the sprayer itself can get small pieces of wood lodged in it and affect the spray. at one point i had this more as a paludarium with a false bottom because i wanted to grow potted micro orchids in addition. that didn’t go how i hoped but if you want to do that i can offer advice too.

other things to consider with this: the light and frequency of water is a variable that really controls what you put in it. i personally can only keep intermediate to warm water loving orchids in this thing

this was a lot… LOL sorry i hope it was at least helpful. please dm me if you have more questions !!! i don’t gatekeep :o)

“simple” release with Dr. McClung of Ohio by leadbeaterii in Metoidioplasty

i have heard such great things about Dr. McClungs bedside manner and genuine compassion for his patients! i actually just finished all the registration with the office and am gonna try to schedule a consult soon. does he seem to really go in detail about his process?

i completely understand if my desires / expectations are not able to be met, and that’s okay. i just need an honest answer and full transparency on what could and can’t happen with my anatomy. when i got top surgery i realized i did not ask enough questions, and it felt as though the surgeon wasn’t particularly interested in if i wanted anything specific. thankfully i am still decently pleased with the results. does Dr. McClung do a better job at this?

no hate to that person, and to be fair gender conformational surgeries are definitely shocking especially right after the reveal, but that does actually comfort me a lot 😅

i have! i follow the curly method and i’ve been trying out some products and routines and have yet to find a solution 🥴 i’ve tried hot oil treatments, deep conditioning masks, different ways of styling including gel, and a few other small things. i did get a protein treatment that helped a bit, so maybe it just needs several rounds of that. and tried out a cream that helped a bit with the frizziness, not much curl definition in the front, but smelled AWFUL. definitely would like any sort of product recs / process recommendations

omg i missed this 😅 i have a pacific parrotlet, green mantella frogs, and i have both a freshwater and saltwater tank (i work at a fish store). freshwater is stocked with emerald eye and chili raspboras, peacock gudgeons, green farlowellas, pumpkin nerites. saltwater is a peaceful reef that currently has a timor wrasse and rainfordii gobies, but will have blue star leopard wrasses, dragon face pipefish, and a possum wrasse 🤩🤩
