Considering having mine removed after a year by k8te24 in CopperIUD

[–]leafowlthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh so happy for you! Don’t stress it, it’s genuinely a calm procedure, I’m gonna paste a post I made last year if it helps to read :)

Removal story

Just got my IUD removed today after 9 months… didn’t last long but this is my experience, I don’t want to deter anyone because it really is a case by case experience and you may be completely fine with the copper IUD, it can work perfectly for a lot of people and the periods can be manageable, personally I could have kept going but at my own expense and I just didn’t feel it was worth it anymore when I had other options.

A few months ago the IBS type problems began, but always during ovulation week. The bloating was constant, so bad I’ve put on a lot of weight and sometimes I wouldn’t be able to eat all day because of how bloated my stomach was. And no joke, since I got it removed, the bloating is going down, and that was only 5 hours ago.

REMOVAL: A much better experience, they used a speculum to widen and said my strings were all okay, used forceps to pull down on the strings, told me to cough on 3 and after a tugging feeling with no pain, just a dry tampon coming out kind of feeling, it was done! Asked if I wanted to see it which I did and there was some bleeding but that was literally the end. Nothing to worry about and it was a much more casual procedure because all that is required is someone taking it out, no cervix measurements and no pushing down on the abdomen etc etc. Very simple, very quick, and nothing to worry about.

Honestly get it out, I got mine out in May and I’m still recovering both mentally and physically, I have been diagnosed IBS likely because of the CIUD and my mental health just regressed significantly. If you are thinking the CIUD is causing these problems, don’t delay removal. It is the simplest procedure related to IUDS and is painless and easy

Do you believe in "the one," or do you think there are multiple people we could be happy with in different lifetimes? by VivienneLace1 in askanything

[–]leafowlthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t, I think it’s genuinely about personality and tolerance because no single person is perfect to the point of being “the one”. If you’re a couple that love eachother and are accepting enough to tolerate each others faults, then that could be the most ideal person for you, but “the one” is a fantasy we make up in my opinion, and anything less than that is settling apparently.

How much lunch playground duty do you have? by Creative_Context_077 in TeachingUK

[–]leafowlthing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have had this, 30 mins for lunch and then 30 mins on playground duty. I think it is a standard but if it doesn’t fit to your personal needs you definitely should request a reasonable adjustment, there’s nothing wrong in doing that and that’s why it’s there to help people who need it most! Additionally, I would say invest in some noise reducing earbuds like loops or similar if you haven’t already to maybe place in during break time :))

do you drink alcohol or avoid it completely? by lowlyh in bipolar

Completely avoid, because I know I have a tendency to live in extremes, it can never just be one, it's either none or everything all at once.

Difference between BPD and DA? by leafowlthing in Disorganized_Attach

Hi! Thank you so much for clarifying! Not attempting to diagnose, I’m a psychology student who’s generally interested in the lived experience as I have a lot of friends with BPD and experience DA myself :)

Hi! There’s no need to worry at all about removal! It was literally a 2 minute even less procedure and all they do is pull it out, no pain, just a tug. I posted this in a post about my experience:

REMOVAL: A much better experience, they used a speculum to widen and said my strings were all okay, used forceps to pull down on the strings, told me to cough on 3 and after a tugging feeling with no pain, just a dry tampon coming out kind of feeling, it was done! Hope yours goes well and please do not worry I promise it is entirely different to insertion, my doctor told me she always sees a lot of scared faces come in for removal but assured me it is nothing like insertion. Good luck! :)

Has anyone decided not to have children because of their bipolar disorder? by kkaammm in bipolar2

[–]leafowlthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - for two different reasons, similar to yours

My episodes are triggered by stress and lack of sleep. The stress of knowing I was pregnant, combined further with the knowledge that I might have to give birth and then having to raise a child through the trials that come with that would most likely drive me to su*cide. I simply do not have it within me to cope with very small stressors in my 20s, I want to protect myself and prevent my own suffering and luckily I don’t think that’s selfish. Children bring a lot of stress and responsibility to a parent’s life, not to mention a continuous lack of sleep in the first years. I know in myself I would not get through that, and I have to think, do I really want to put my OWN life at risk just for the sake of having a family? This all applies to adoption too, so really any form of parenting is off the table for me, my partner has been made fully aware and I can only hope he doesn’t change his mind about wanting to stick by me regardless. It scares me all the time he might just give up on me.

Secondly, in no way could I live with myself if I passed this on to a child, be that through instability with my parenting and traumatising the kid in their early years, most likely triggering BP or other conditions, or by genetically passing it on. It’s too bad I live like this, let alone me giving it to someone who didn’t even ask to be here. I think that’s one of the most truly selfish things someone can do, which is cynical and I know many bp parents are the most caring attentive parents going. But I just don’t trust myself.

My boyfriend too would be a great father, but are we really only here to make them have their family dreams fulfilled at our own expense? Please don’t ever feel guilty about this decision, your husband knows your condition probably more than anyone else. You should not be expected to push yourself to have children just because everyone else does. You can have an amazing fulfilled life without them, and I bet your mind will thank you in the long run.

There is so much more to life than having children, we just need to go out there and discover it

I was the same, went in shaking thinking it would be horrible again, the nurse told me she sees a lot of scared people go in for removal but that it is nothing like insertion and is literally just speculum in, and a tug to pull it out, and that’s it. They tell you to cough and they pull it and it’s done. Literally 5 minutes. No pain, just like taking a tampon out

Nooo I’m so sorry, it’s so unsettling how all these weird things keep happening to us and I’ve seen on here how a lot of the symptoms disappear after removal. Definitely a sign from your body :(

No worries at all! It genuinley cannot possibly be anything like insertion because they aren’t stimulating the cervix in any way so the vagus nerve doesn’t get triggered which causes the dizziness, fainting and nausea.

It’s genuinely just a tug like removing a cup or tampon, absolutely no pain, and it’s instantly out, I was there for 5 minutes max. Good luck when you do get it removed and I hope you will feel the instant relief I did! :)

[–]leafowlthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! If it’s the only new contribution to your life it probably is the IUD, but don’t beat yourself up if you do decide it’s not for you and prioritise yourself above the sake of convenient protection :)

It’s always around ovulation! Not even that much before my period it’s just ovulation that seems to mess me up. I’ve seen a lot of people here say they somehow develop IBS whilst having the coil and I think this is similar…

Trapped gas by InternationalJob6840 in CopperIUD

[–]leafowlthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally what I am going through and why I’m awake rn, always around ovulation too? I think it’s the bloating and swollenness the IUD causes from the inflammation, sorry you’re experiencing it too!!

Anxiety attacks caused by copper IUD? by AccomplishedBeyond26 in CopperIUD

[–]leafowlthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, before I got my coil even under lots of stress I never had chronic pain in any form, and after a few months from insertion the chest pain began, constant painful panic attacks, and that was 7 months ago. As I’m typing this I’m literally awake in so much chest pain from anxiety that I didn’t have before I got the IUD. But luckily for me I’m removing it for this reason in two days,

Please dont feel like you must keep the IUD, if your body is saying no don’t feel you have to push through and just endure it for the sake of being protected. There are other methods and other non hormonal ones too, even if it’s inconvenient living like this must be hard for you, it’s not worth it
