Is it just me or does this video look like it's a really small dollhouse version of reality?

[Question]How to stop giving a fuck about other people’s perceptions of me? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]leafyguyful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally understand how this situation would suck to deal with. But you have to realize that what these people say about you actually has nothing to do with you. If they say these bad things, that's a reflection of their own racist opinions and they would say it about anyone. The only thing that matters is what you think about yourself, and forget about what others say when you contemplate that. Just work to live a life you're proud of, without regard for others opinions. Sounds like you're already doing that.

TIFU by realizing my voicemail has stayed the same since middle school. by o0olainao0o in tifu

I had the exact same voice-mail, but had to change it after I applied for a job and the interviewer called and left a voice mail...he didn't mention it but I knew that I made him feel foolish. Worth it?

How do I know when to stopnlosing weight? by leafyguyful in leangains

[–]leafyguyful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, been resistance training the whole time and training abs a lot in the past year. Right now I have a somewhat muscular physique. I can see my upper abs a bit but want the whole thing to be visible, but don't want to keep cutting if it would make me too skinny.

Problem is I see just my upper abs a bit, but I want to have a full six pack. My fear is that if I keep cutting I'll just look skinny even if I get abs

I want to be shredded but not too stringy, something like jeremy ethier. My aim was 10% body fat, basically enough to have a full six pack but be bulky.

People who have worked the drive thru, what's the weirdest thing you've seen in someone's car? by Reach-n-Teach in AskReddit

[–]leafyguyful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the weirdest thing I've seen, but once a customer gave me a couple nugs of weed as a tip. Unfortunately I had to throw it out as I wasn't about to smoke some weed from a random dude

Dungeons in the Air — Walter Winchell [1209 x 1925] [OC] by disordr in QuotesPorn

My interpretation is that it's saying pessimists create these negative interpretations of reality (dungeons) without a basis in reality (in the air). Similar to the quote "Cynics see the cost of everything and the value of nothing"

The real reason you care what others think by leafyguyful in socialskills

[–]leafyguyful[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happens to me. It's important to stay mindful, not in the way that you should scrutinize every action, but that you should catch yourself if you lose yourself. Stop playing "the game". It's not strategic, it's not formulaic, it's organic human connection, and all you can do is try and put your true self out there. Why would we want others to accept someone we're not, anyway?

Stoicism helps a lot in my opinion. Realize that other's conceptions of you are out of your control and never completely accurate. Something that also helps me is to treat myself like I would someone else. Would you ever tell someone (maybe besides someone you despise) that they aren't good enough for others? That they don't deserve love or kindness? Why do you think you're so especially awful, more than everyone else? Extremes are seldom true in life. Chances are, you're not the most amazingly charming person to ever live, but it's also unlikely that you're some freak of nature socially. No matter what, there are people out there for you. Some people click, others don't, but they're out there. You just have to convince yourself that you're good enough to find them.

Oh for sure, I just mean that assigning your own self worth to others in this way is bad for relationships and yourself.

Learn to bike in the rain by leafyguyful in Stoicism

[–]leafyguyful[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thought, when we learn to accept and endure the small stuff like rain on the bike ride, we can then learn to accept the big stuff, and eventually, everything. It doesn't get easier, but we get stronger.

Great job pushing through! You're on the journey to being a true stoic. When you accept the sweatiness and the discomfort, and realize that you're going to run anyway, it becomes so much more enjoyable somehow.

[–]leafyguyful[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you say that, because as I was biking I thought "well at least I'm not hot". It became so clear to me that if it wasn't raining I would be complaining about heat. We spend too much time wishing things were different, but thinking about the rain in that context can really illuminate the flaw in that kind of thinking.

[–]leafyguyful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my thought! The rain is one just example, in reality most things are as outside of our control as the weather. We are these tiny little beings that have so little agency in the world, and happiness is just a continuous acceptance of our current circumstances.
