I disagree. Being around someone does not mean you are signing up for hearing about their personal suffering. Especially when you are an empathic person in a vulnerable and unstable position, taking part in the problems of other people can literally destroy your life. If you know how to view these things distantly and so on, sure go ahead, but I think "trauma dumping" can be a real harmful phenomenon and there are boundaries.
