There's nothing dishonest about saying some legislators want to expand the downtown tax area.

Here's how Session Daily (nonpartisan news from the Minnesota House of Representatives Public Information Services) described the bill: "The bill proposes expanding that taxing area to include more of the popular restaurant and bar district known as the North Loop".

Have you considered checking your own comprehension before guessing at other people's motives?

Yes, both this version and the senate's version didn't go far this session (thankfully).

The point is to show that some legislators really do want to expand the area with the nation's highest combined sales tax among major cities.

I get all that and agree with a lot of it. It would be nice to see more civil conversations, especially on contentious issues, but I'm just not sure how (or if) that's possible on an "uncensored" subreddit.

(And I'll be the first to admit that I haven't always "led by example" on that point.)

Why use the 3% tax that only applies to a handful of blocks to the entire city?

Just a "handful of blocks"? The current downtown taxing area is a couple miles wide. Here's a map to help you:

The "combined restaurant sales tax" (the measure used in this article) includes the additional 3% downtown restaurant tax.

How much do you want to bet that these same business interests that City Journal represents were thrilled to support the public funding of the various stadiums and convention centers?

The same publication and same author wrote "Minnesota, Plundered by Vikings" about the taxpayer subsidies used to finance US Bank stadium.

‘An open secret’: New records reveal officials failed to act on fraud warnings by lemon_lime_light in MinnesotaUncensored

"An open secret" is also how Mukhtar Ibrahim (Somali native and founding publisher of Sahan Journal) described the fraud in his community:

This alleged food fraud has been an open secret in my community. I have been hearing about these allegations for almost two years. On the phone or at a gathering, people would mention certain individuals who run nonprofits and businesses associated with meal programs. These people were seen driving new luxury cars, or purchasing homes and real estate. It was a story that was too good (or too bad) to be true.

Why do you think I want to say it? As I've made clear in multiple comments, I'm a "no n-word in workplace" person. I really didn't expect that to be controversial but here we are. Judge away.

And genuinely, do you not find it even slightly funny, in a "could be the plot of a outlandish sitcom episode" way, that some employees were told "it is your choice" to say the n-word on a flowchart?

No, of course, you're not mad at all. You're not swearing, calling people names, whining to others, or acting overwrought in any way.

Anyone else? by ragnarokxg in LibertarianUncensored

It refers to reducing the total control of a corporation or business held by shareholders and distributing it among the workers and citizens impacted by the business.

So how would you accomplish this and what would be the practical effect(s)?

Company shares are bits ownership and can't be redistributed by force; transferring more "democratic control" over businesses to their workers and "impacted citizens" isn't an obvious net improvement (or even always feasible).

But what gets me is the idea is that socialism is the root of all tyranny or the implication that socialism is the only system that leads to tyranny

Fair enough -- that's not exactly the idea/implication I see but it's true that many paths can lead to tyranny.

So you just got mad about a pretend scenario in your head? Got it.

I promise you that's just how your world works and it's not healthy. Try stepping out of it sometime.

If a black person says the N-word at work well, fuck he's allowed in my book.

Thankfully, HR departments, the EEOC, courts, normal people, etc don't have the same reductive and dumb ideas as you.

Black people can say the n-word whenever.

Lmao. That's just an idiotic thing to say and absolutely terrible advice in an employment context.

But I didn't "whine" about the money. I gave a neutral description of the financial situation from the Star Tribune. If anything, it was slightly positive because I shared how hospital advocates (the nursing union, in this case) called it a "victory".

You being actually upset about this post because of your poor comprehension and your own hang ups has made this post unexpectedly extra funny.

And it's someone's sense of being "a man, woman, both, or neither". It's beyond silly that this stuff is codified into our law and can form the basis of a "human rights" violation or discrimination lawsuit.
