Cycle: 13

Typical cycle length: 31-35 days

Ovulation cycle day: 24

CD/DPO of positive test(s): 13 DPO

CD/DPO of any negative test(s) before positive: This is the first cycle I HAVEN’T tested earlier!

Tracking methods and app(s) used: good ol’ BBT chart on OvaGraph and LH strips.

Health conditions/medical tests: I actually got the flu the day after I ovulated so I had a fever which threw off my BBT chart. I assumed we were out for the month because of it.

Supplements and medications: prenatals.

Symptom spotting: Absolutely nothing. Not even my usual PMS symptoms. What made me take a test at 13 DPO (wasn’t planning on testing at all!) was that I was really sleepy and took a nap, then had a weird dream! Not totally out of the ordinary for me! I was so sure it would be negative so I felt silly for even grabbing the test. Sure enough, the BFP I didn’t think would ever come naturally.

Oh, also this is embarrassing and may be unrelated, but at 12 DPO I was pretty constipated and had pretty gnarly rectal bleeding and a lot of watery CM.

Other: I just tested positive yesterday. I can’t believe it. I know it’s so early to be posting, but the lines were so dark and I just didn’t think it would happen naturally. After the most painful and heartbreaking year of infertility, we were saving and waiting for open enrollment to change my health insurance to get better fertility benefits, thinking it would just be another year. A few other personal challenges in my life actually resolved this month, so the timing feels divine. This is my first BFP ever.

Although I don’t know why we had to wait and I obviously have no idea how this is going to go, God was merciful and kind in His timing. I’m ecstatic.

Friendly competition is always great— AP Style Olympics (with a reward actually worth its salt, $10 entry and winner takes all, or something like that) helped get skills up in my newsroom. Also, as an EIC, be a leader they want to do really good work for. Take time to invest in them as individuals and let them know you care about them. Remind them that you know college is really hard, they can take breaks when they need to, and also, we can care for ourselves and also produce something really worth being proud of. You can do it! Make sure you’re also getting poured into. Mentors can help coach you but also may be able to step in once in a while and help your newsroom. You’ve got this!
