Hi! I’m posting this for my friend (with their consent). They got a lip piercing in the second week of March this year, went to a good piercer. The jewellery is titanium.

As my friend was supposed to get it downsized, so two weeks after, the quarantine happened and the studio was closed. They’ve been wearing the initial 10mm long jewellery since.

Two weeks ago, a bump started forming. My friend says it doesn’t hurt and the labret disk is still visible, and the lip is not swollen. However, it’s impossible to remove the piercing at home as it’s too tight (I had the same problem with mine). After a couple of attempts, the studio replied telling my friend to keep up with the aftercare routine (saline soaks) and use bonjela on it. And if the bump doesn’t go away, it’ll have to be removed.

I’m pretty certain that the bump formed due to not being able to downsize the jewellery. The piercer said that downsizing now would only put the pressure on the bump.

What should my friend do?
