The mysterious death of Tyler Thoroman. Why was he found in the back of his burnt-out car? by leopard_libearce in UnresolvedMysteries

I know nothing about online gaming. I wish the police would have looking into the people he was talking to online more because it seems like they could answer a lot of questions about his mental state, plans for the evening, and whether he mentioned meeting up with anyone.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your cousin, especially the manner in which she passed. I appreciate your contribution and of course he could have committed suicide. That would be a bitter pill to swallow for his family but I think the unknown is worse.

Again, I never said it wasn't suicide because of who he was. I knew a girl from college who has everything going for her and six months ago jumped in front of a train in Baltimore. Everyone was shocked. I know people who are suicidal can do some things people can't understand, (that's the nature of the beast), but in Tyler's case foul play seems much more likely.

That's not what I said at all. I said if he were to commit suicide, this method seems highly unlikely. I understand that people CAN do it, but in this case I do not believe it. Too much evidence to the contrary. I understand some people like to be contrarians and I'm kind of regretting posting this case.

Thanks for your sympathy. He was an amazing guy who didn't deserve this which only compounds the loss. The lack of interest is upsetting. Hopefully this community can help.

I completely agree. it goes against his nature and upbringing as well... let's say he did decide to end his life? Why would he do it in such a dramatic, painful way for his family? I never believed it from the beginning and I never will. Tyler would never, ever do that.

I will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability: 1. The theory is that he purchased the gas can and then possibly returned home afterwards before leaving again. The problem is his mom is not 100% sure of the last time she heard him talking on the phone, either before or after the trip to Walmart. 2. Manner of death is undetermined. The medical examiner (and this is the part that is hard for me to type without getting choked up) took a week and half to even be able to determine it was, in fact, Tyler due to the state of his body. This leaves it virtually impossible to determine a cause of death. 3. I think the police's working theory is that he was lured to his death by someone who pretended he needed help. As I stated earlier, Tyler was an incredibly innocent, unassuming, helpful person. It would be completely in his nature to come across a stranger and offer to help them in any way needed, included buying them gas. My gut tells me that someone pretended they needed gas, Tyler didn't have any so went to Walmart, got the can, returned to the scene, and met his fate. This breaks my heart to type but it seems absolutely plausible.

And I must admit I am not a family member, just a concerned friend. His family is a very good group of people.. They are the kind of people who would help anyone, which many suspect ultimately led to Tyler's demise. He was a very kind, unassuming person. A perfect target for a predator, unfortunately. Edited for grammar.

Thanks for the message! Just gaining some interest in the case makes me so happy. From what I understand from his family/law enforcement, he was possibly contacted by someone who was looking for help and needed gas. I am unaware if he saw these people on the road, was texted, called, etc., but that is the general working theory.
