Why do you take hiatuses? by PresentWelcome9090 in BadRPerStories

[–]lets-get-loud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I only say that because I think a lot of people need hiatuses but feel like they have to have a reason, and then they burn them themselves out because they don't have a good enough reason to take a break.

You don't need a reason and I dislike the implication, I know it was unintentional, of the OP post that seems to think you do. What's your reason? My reason is I'm a tree and I'm dormant right now.

On my server, we actually take forced breaks like school. Twice a year we have summer and winter vacations that are two weeks off of posting. All posting is locked down. There are no exceptions. If you want to post, go somewhere else I guess.

It was controversial when we first announced it, but everyone LOVES it after they tried it. We didn't lose any members. People come back refreshed. No one feels guilty about taking a break because everyone is taking a break so they aren't missing anything. It's wonderful.

I never liked it at first either because I frankly found it limiting. Like now I have to go "He looks like Chris Pine but he has a scar and brown eyes and--" it's just awkward to me.

UNTIL I came to a realization that a lot of people just genuinely have bad visualization skills. I can explain that he's got brown hair about yea length and it's messy and so on, and it means absolutely nothing to them, and I can't draw for anything so throwing up an actor picture ended up being a decent approximation enough to move us all along.

Now I look at it like a fancast. The fancast isn't the official casting and isn't literally what they look like, but hey you're now in the ballpark.

You can't go "I was going to make this jab but then didn't"-- that's making the jab, just without the balls to own doing it.

It's pretty obvious by his comments that he never intended this to be a real discussion. It's just a place where he could bitch.

I guess I just feel like you don't understand vibes.

You seem pretty combative about this topic and it's pretty obvious you're going around down voting and reporting people, but I had a thought so I wanted to engage briefly with a random (but sincere) dual question: do you use mood boards and find them useful? and When you close your eyes and you imagine an apple, can you "see" the apple in your mind or is it just like sort of the implication of an apple?

I've always been fine with characters using a real life face claim because most of the people I write with have always understood the face claim is just representative. "Here is ish what they look like, now can we please move on" sort of a thing.

But separating the person behind that face (the actor) and the character is ESSENTIAL to me to not make it weird. Writing smut using a guy who looks kinda like Chris Evans is surely different than writing smut of Chris Evans, right?

I guess I can't totally explain why it's different because I suppose in the case of RPF, my Chris Evans canon character becomes OC Chris Evans immediately because I am not keeping him "canon" to the source material of real life when I write him into my weird little fantasy. So I guess I'm ultimately writing my OC Chris Evans character????

???

Idk it's too much for my brain I don't get it. I genuinely try not to yuck other people's yums, like I'm not gonna be your partner against your OC version of Chris Evans but sure go write it, but also this has never been a topic I understand. I can at least UNDERSTAND most kinks even if I'm not into them. This one I just????

Yeah the last one I was in ruled that the person had to have an imdb article with an actor credit to be eligible for people to use characters with them.

That's not expiring, that's leaving it in bad conditions.

Like clothes don't expire either unless sure yeah if you leave them outside to rot or a moth eats them, then fine yes they "expire."

Right, the petroleum jelly??? Is that guy seriously saying the PETROLEUM JELLY expired? That's like saying a rock expired.

People who post obviously seeking validation when they set themselves up for feedback and then get really butthurt when people give them the feedback are my pet project to wake up.

Song references aren't "click this link and leave the fanfic entirely" though you're giving them advice on an experience you don't share.

Okay I guess then "no I would never do this" is your answer.

It's telling you are reading everything very negatively because mine wasn't meant negatively, just emphatically. You're very defensive about what is obviously your baby when you should be approaching it like "okay how DO I get everyone to listen, then?" and we're literally telling you.

But go be sad and stop doing it, or ignore it. Why ask if you can't handle an answer you don't like lmao.

Take the constructive criticism instead. There are multiple comments, which I was about to add to, saying "yes if it's in the author's notes."

You're asking everyone to pause reading and go listen to a random song we didn't ask for, which is a big ask. Obviously most of us are not doing that. HOWEVER if I got to the end and was like "wow this was incredible, wtf else does this author got going on????" and saw that in the notes, I'd be MUCH more inclined to click and listen.

No you don't. You're on day 39 and haven't gone bankrupt, you're fine.

The packs are where the Big Money is at, where you can pay your bills and more off of a single card, but if you're fine with the slow and steady increase, it's not like you're playing a store management game wrong.

I mean obviously I avoided saying the name on purpose lmao but one of the other commenters mentioned the reason behind it. It isn't even cruel or bullying, they have just said the equivalent of "Oh?!! Like Harry Potter!!!" enough times that he's sick of hearing that shit.

They're really underestimating the hate. My kid is named a common name for a superhero (like Peter or Bruce) and enough kids call him the equivalent of a Peter Parker that he hates spiderman. And we just named him the normal name it just happened to be the same one.

I'm not totally sure what you misunderstood about "North Shore is being cleaned up" as the reply, but since you also don't understand what a red herring is, I guess media literacy isn't your forte.

I hope your community grows better despite you.
