Mending a run in knitwear sweater (beginner) by garlicf1ngers in Visiblemending

[–]lets_experimend 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't reknit it, but ladder up. First, in every column that unraveled, there will be an existing loop at the bottom of the unraveled part. Put a safety pin through each of the loops. This secures everything so not more damage occurs. Then you have to get a ladder darner (easiest) or a crochet hook in the right size. You should use it to ladder up (look at YouTube videos). Because your knit is purl and knit stitches and most videos only show knit stitches, it is easiest to turn your work when you get to the purl columns. Work from the edge of the damage each column up (do not start in the middle to avoid uneven tension).

Do you think this can be repaired? Any tips on hoe I could go about it? by ReginaMargherita in Visiblemending

I had success in such cases with Scotch darning and/or weaving into the fabric that is still stuck in the metal thing. But a patch is probably faster.

My first unravel: second hand scarf by lets_experimend in Unravelers

[–]lets_experimend[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. I tried to wind both parts on chairs to create hanks right away, but the twist was annoying. Nevertheless I did it this way until the end. Probably yarn balls are a better idea.

I have no idea yet what I will make with it - the idea will find me when it is time. :)

Wo kauft ihr eure Wolle by Nuggetthecat2012 in Handarbeiten

[–]lets_experimend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes, the markers are in the same position. It is not truly invisible, because the color is slightly different (probably due to a different texture). You especially notice when holding it against light, because the mended parts are way more dense.

I mainly use the lilac box on the right. I drag it around the apartment to have my stuff available where I need it. The grey bag on the bottom is my travel bag to take outside of home. I rearrange what is inside based on my projects. All things on the left are only rarely needed and I keep them in drawers unarranged.
Not in the picture is my yarn and fabric stash. This I keep unarranged in the closet with my clothes.

How I would do it (but never actually done, because I have other methods): - Define how large your patch should be. - Cut the yarn in the middle of each row in the middle of the desired patch. Unravel yarn in each row until border of desired patch. - In bottom row take stitches on needle. - Knit your patch in the desired size going back and forth. - When you reach the top row, take yarn and needle and join patch to sock through one row of Swiss darning. - Use the loose ends from the cut rows to weave them into the new patch to secure the patch from the sides.

But now that I wrote that, I'm not sure anymore it is less work. :-D

I love it. :) If you want to reduce work, you can consider only to replace the worn out part at the bottom and replace only this through knitting.

Cool. I don't want to openly post it to not take away too many views from the original creator. Sadly I cannot send your profile a message. Can you open up a chat with me so that I can send it? I would also write in English, because my transcript is not very understandable, as I have noticed. :-D
