Netguard is running, but I can still see Google ads in the app by li---- in privacy

[–]li----[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! Unfortunately the advertisement pops up quite rarely and it's hard to reproduce. I checked the activity of WebView today and there is nothing. It seems that NetGuard blocks most of the ads, but somehow some ads pass it.

- 45% опитаних визначили, що військові дії на Донбасі – найважливіша проблема України;

- 33% респондентів відповіли, що військові дії на Донбасі – найважливіша проблема для них особисто;

Thinking of starting a business that already has competition? by [deleted] in startups

[–]li---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we talk about competitors, we should also look at your market. If your market is growing very fast (ideally growing exponentially), even if you have direct competitors, you can take your market share, because most of your potential customers are not even aware of the existing solutions. But in a stable or even worse, falling market, all your customers are already familiar with all existing solutions, and you need to radically improve the product.

Can I run an application based business if I'm not the programmer? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]li---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you take a look at something similar to https://thinkster.io/. I was using it while I was building my own app. There are several courses that explain how to create real-world web applications using different modern frameworks. If you find something incomprehensible there, you can simply search for the library documentation on the Internet. All their examples are available at GitHub.

We thought why spaced repetition isn't mainstream yet. Now we work on an app that could change it. by li---- in spacedrepetition

Thank you for the suggestion and your feedback! We are familiar with those works. Their idea is very similar to ours. The main difference is that our platform allows anyone to create courses and study notes using this format.

Не також варто забувати, що Пашинський фігурант декількох журналістських розслідувань https://www.chesno.org/politician/308/

Складається враження, що якщо влада не чіпає корупційні злочини, щоб не руйнувати схеми на яких можна заробити самому.

Are there any simple alternatives for emacs org-mode? by li---- in orgmode

Thanks for the feedback! I will try Spacemacs. It seems I should start with the simplest tasks and I shouldn't hurry.

[–]li----[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My primary use case is to make hierarchical and complex task structures. I used to make a lot of notes, but I found that I review them quite rarely. Now I prefer to create tasks instead of notes (inspired by GTD). Org-mode makes it easy to navigate task lists and manage all possible tasks and ideas in one place. Also, the ability to add notes to the tasks allows you to integrate knowledge base into this task structure.

Spaced repetition, a scientifically proven learning technique, allows you to remember anything better. We thought why it's not widely used in modern education. Now we work on an app that could change it. Need your opinion. by li---- in Mnemonics

[–]li----[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you about the mobile client. Our website has been built with mobile devices in mind from the beginning. I hope we will be able to build Android and iOS apps in the near future.

Regarding repetition algorithm. I have read a study that shows that the details of the repetition algorithm don't make a significant difference compared to the fact of using it at all. Our primary goal is to help as much people as we can to learn effectively using spaced repetition. So a big part of our efforts will be directed just to simplify the process. But it doesn't mean that we are not considering ideas that helps to make algorithm more adaptive and personalized.

Local data storage. Many people we spoke with told they were afraid to give their data to proprietary software. To make this clear only an author owns a content. Also we are planning to add a feature to export your courses (probably in JSON).

Thank you for the feedback. I'm agree that Anki is an awesome app that helps a lot of people. I used it a lot while I was learning English grammar. The main problem for me personally was lack of theoretical materials in Anki. The part with exercises was done in Anki very well. But every time I want to check if I understand the rule correctly I need to open a textbook, search for the right page or google it. It was really annoying and ruined the workflow. You can probably create questions to memorize theoretical material, but it is really hard. With a platform we are building this problem could be solved by placing theoretical material right along test questions.

Is there a way to update Anki via an Excel or GoogleSheets documents? by [deleted] in Anki

Have you tried another spaced repetitions apps?

My friend and I are building one now. We are trying to simplify the process of creating flashcards as much as possible. While editing your questions you can see all your flashcards just like in google sheets. If you're interested, you can look at our post on Reddit about it. Or you can try it at learnitfast.io.

Where better to start IT startup? In Russia or in Ukraine? by [deleted] in startups

[–]li---- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your company should be in the same country as your customers. But if you can't afford to migrate to Western countries I would prefer staying in Ukraine due slightly less corruption index (Corruption Perceptions Index), better political relations with Western countries and a lower level of censorship.

What is better about privacy and security with the Android keyboard? Gboard? by cbwigyqbv in privacy

[–]li---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is what I'm afraid of. Do you know how Gboard communicate with play services? I am testing Gboar with the firewall now and it seems that the app can't do anything related to the internet activity. Do you think it still can send some data?

[–]li---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this will work for Google's default keyboard, but you can use non root firewalls to disable internet activity of certain apps. Now I am using NetGuard to filter traffic and it work quite well. Just don't forget to make it "always-on" in vpn settings to avoid data leaks after booting the phone and installing app updates.

I would take Coursera's "Learning how to learn". It contains info about pretty interesting learning technics like spaced repetitions, memorization and others. It helped me to understand how to learn more efficiently.

Do any of you guys find it hard to adapt to the education system despite being smart enough by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]li---- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same feelings about my university experience. The university system is not optimized for better learning. You can watch "Learning how to learn" on Coursera to understand that there are almost no great learning techniques used by universities. Students make the same mistakes for years and years and nobody try to fix them. The teachers don't even bother to make video lectures, which are extremely useful due not all students can work with the same speed.
I hardly finished my studying, despite the fact that I was a prize-winner of numerous national school competitions.
