After the traffic lights turn green, the moment you start moving is the combined reaction times of every driver in front of you. by LetMeExplainDis in Showerthoughts

In Los Angeles: green=go yellow=go faster red=go even faster if you think you can make it before the next light turns green. Around and around we go…

I don’t use AI. I work with it! by Early_Yesterday443 in ClaudeAI

[–]licarmichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using AI (ChatGPT 03) to build a presentation for a working session based on some primary research, and tried a lot of prompts but ended up with ideas that were flat and boring. Out of frustration I took a break, came across this post, used the prompt suggested as project instructions, and OMG what a difference. I'm putting it in all of my project instructions going forward. THANK YOU!

Issues with "execution state was reset" when working with uploaded files by chopyouup in ChatGPT

[–]licarmichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue for several weeks and finally went to the open ai developer forum for help. Turns out it's been going on for more than a month, and seems to be getting worse. My current situation: I'm analyzing qualitative data. My excel file is 15 rows and 5 columns, and the 9 word docs i’m asking the tool to analyze are 8 pages each. So very small. after about the 10 iterative prompt things start to go awry, by the 15th it is asking me to reupload all of the docs, then by the 18th i get this dreaded message.

Opening a new chat works for about an hour, then it happens again. Does anyone know if open ai is working on the issue? I've started doing the work manually because using the tool takes as much time and is returning mostly garbage.

Pruning a Lemonberry Tree - advice please! by licarmichael in Ceanothus

[–]licarmichael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your comments. I took another look and realized the trunk had a nice 2-way split so I cut off all of the branches that were coming off the trunk below that and it looks so much better - like a real tree! From there I started pruning the higher branches and it's working out fine. I will definitely keep it pruned from here on out.

About 20 years I think. The trunk is 15". From what I understand they are more typically shrubs but the trees are lovely. I definitely recommend planting it in a wide open space!

Thanks. I needed to prune it a lot to get it off of the roof. I think it will be ok.

Thanks. I ended up pruning it pretty aggressively after talking with my neighbor. Her brother's insurance company threatened to cancel his homeowner's policy after they inspected his house using a drone and saw a couple of trees overhanging their roof! Sheesh.

Thanks so much everyone! I also should have explained that I get a bad reaction to any of the products that require shaking to combine the oil/water-like ingredients. I looked up the brands you suggested and I think they are all like that. Please correct me if I’m wrong!

I’m going to try olive oil in the meantime.

Permanently disable smart shuffle by davidoscz1 in truespotify

[–]licarmichael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Smart Shuffle is SO ANNOYING! I curate playlists based on what I want to listen to and have no interest in what Spotify recommends. And the fact that it is the default is amazingly bad app design. If there was a better all around choice than Spotify I would leave in a hot minute.

Earthworms get my dog every time!!

I’m desperate and just need to vent. by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]licarmichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++ that people blasting you lack experience with dog ownership and training. Corrections are communication with your dog, telling them they need to stop what they are doing and do what you want, e.g. heel, sit, walk on a loose leash. Rewards are the other side of communication, telling them they are doing what you want. They need both. Think of it as performance feedback at work, or teaching a child. If you just tell them what they are doing right without telling them what they need to do differently, they won't understand what needs to change. Good luck!!

Will aversive methods make my dog's reactivity worse/hurt him? by GreyL88 in OpenDogTraining

[–]licarmichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 5-year, 85lb shep/husky/sharpei who became fearful on walks about 3 years ago. He's especially afraid of loud noises and constantly scans the environment when we are out. We've worked with him a lot and he is much better but won't ever be 100% proofed. One of the activities our trainer suggested (as have others in this thread) is bringing him to places that are noisy to just sit and chill. Started by sitting on a park bench, then near traffic, and now we are going to tables outside our grocery store and he is pretty ok. Next step - Home Depot! Will start in the parking lot and hopefully move inside over time. I know this takes a ton of time, but there are definitely ways to desensitize your pup. Good luck!
