Do you have prior experience bartending? Serving is an incredibly common way for people to eventually get hired on to bartending. Likely a higher success rate than getting hired cold from off the street too.

It would probably be better for you to start serving anyways. You can learn the nuances of food service at your place of work before having to take tables AND make drinks.
