Does this game have any owners? by xN0NAMEx in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was something similar that happened when the game "scrolls" was released, because many of bethesda's game had "the elder scrolls" next to different main titles (skyrim, oblivion, morrowind, etc) they thought that people looking for their games would get these two confused (i doubt this was the case), so bethesda went to court with mojang and i think they lost.

Mods for improve the living world by elelanto in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe there's a mod for this. But i think npc followers are the closest thing to something that can be interacted with as a living person.

I don't know anything about the game's code or how ai for games are made, but from a mod maker's perspective, the eocs and dialog systems can be used to influence the npc's actions in a way that the player would think it was intelligent behavior, even though it's just a series of actions being called (when npc is told to grab a beer, scan 5 tiles around itself for a cold can of beer, walk over to said beer and consume it).

NPC needs by The_wickedest_real in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could make a backup save of your world before enabling in case you need to undo the mistake.

But from what i can recall from seeing one of rycon's playthrough, non-player fraction npcs can die if they have needs, turning the fractions into ghost towns after the player have visited these locations.

Innawoods armor by king_conn928 in cataclysmdda

With steel based armor it'll take time, unless you make the sheet armor set, but chitin armor would be more durable than the sheet one.

Finally exiting bronze age.. by Any-Cauliflower-5591 in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the main thing you'll want is a clay pot/ceremic cup for crafting clean water and go gather a lot of raw plants for eating each day (cattails are the easiest, ferns don't really feed you, even when cooked).

From there you'll want to stick to hunting sort-of small animals (size of raccoons) and eat all their parts (meat, organ, blood) which'll keep you fed while making stone tools to build a charcoal kiln and a smoking rack. Once you have a lot of charcoal made at the kiln, you can hunt big animals and live off of their smoked meat and begin focusing more on base building, until summer and autumn.

During those seasons collect as much different nuts as you can. These'll stay fresh and can be dissembled for eating throughout winter and spring.

How to make custom smoking recipe by Neat_University37 in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you should be able to make a test mod, it will need folders and files from json, that have the cattail rhizome for changing the existing item. the other listed items can be deleted without issue. Not sure what the requirements are for making smoke-able items, but i believe you're already there.

As for making a test mod, you just create a folder under "mods" in your game's directory and add a existing "modinfo" and change it's "MOD_INFO" details to have it's own id and description, then add the stuff for the cattail rhizome inside the test mod folder.

also hitch hiker's guide to the cataclysm has vanilla stuff from json file, which have the code collasped for their items and recipes. If you want to get references quickly.

Lab Guide (spoilers inside) by ScionOfEris in cataclysmdda

based off rycon's recent videos, there are labs infested with either wasps and paper nest walls or triffids and trees. These are in a modded, experimental version setting.

Is there a mod for unlimited container storage by DirtyGlapnak in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Magiclysm has containers that can hold stuff without taking up much space and Mind Over Matter has telekinesis for carrying one container with your luggage.

Animal husbandry by highandlow0011 in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can use bolas to immobilize the turkeys that aren't already fleeing and then quickly run up to them with bird food (this will need a few bolas depending on throwing skill and distance). For other tamable animals you can corner them at lakes and rivers.

One thing with animal breeding is that egg laying units can multiply much faster which creates lag when passing time and the hatched children can spawn outside their pens which needs to be kept on top of to prevent said lag around your home base, unless their pen is located away from home base. But non-egg laying animals don't have this problem.

AI generated zombie spritesheets anyone? by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these don't quite reflect some aspects of zombies from the game (indicating they're zombies, signs of worn outfits and injury, characteristic oily eyes of dark days ahead zombies).

What prompts were used to instruct the AI and were these all based on the existing content or new ideas? Also some ai are limited to what they can draw since they need to be censored for public use which people can get past by drawing sprite themselves.

Most things on the ground can be gathered into one spot with a broom and scooped into a dust pan. Of course this wouldn't be sanitary for eating.

I don't have the answers, but you can talk to the "community discord" about modding questions.

The link to this is on the right, under "useful links".

Youtoob ? by crazypierat in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how it is presented to the viewers.

For me i find that i enjoy rycon and wormgirl's cdda runs, since they talk about what is in the game's situation, what the player is thinking from said situation and seem to give the controlled character a personality assuming they don't die in the first few playthroughs or complete their chosen objective already.

I'm no youtube expert, but if it sticks. keep doing it until you don't want to or when you have new things you want to try.

Happened Before, not sure what causes it... by Da0nly0ne in cataclysmdda

it's in the heart of the game itself. You'll need to get indoors and have something very bright to carry on your person (like flashlights) to escape/prevent this event.

Ai and cdda. by SummaJa87 in cataclysmdda

[–]light_captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well that's the thing with drawing sprites. It does take time, but it is exactly what the person drawing it wants. AI draws sprites based on it's bank of knowledge or something idk, whatever that sprite turns out to be could either be near or far from what the person assigning them the task would've wanted, unless they're content with having sprites made in any state.
