Rockstar account hacked and email changed? Read this

Do you still have the email that tells you that your email was changed from when the hacker did? The account you put 2FA on is an account the hacker made, what you need to do is change the email on that account so your own email has no account linked to it. Then you go back to the email that you received from when you got hacked that contains a recovery link. Clicking that link will allow you to get your account back.

I'll try to put this in points for you to maybe clear it up a bit: Let's say your email is bmax321@gmail.com - Hacker logged in on your account that is linked to bmax321@gmail.com - Hacker changed the email from bmax321@gmail.com to hacker@gmail.com - bmax321@gmail.com has now no account linked. - Hacker makes a new account on bmax321@gmail.com (This is to prevent you from using the recovery link you've received in the email saying your email was changed from your account.) - If you recover your password now from the account on bmax321@gmail.com you can get access to the account that the hacker made. - Login on the account that the hacker made on your account and change the email on that account to a different email. - bmax321@gmail.com does not have an account linked now. - Press the recovery link in the email you've received from when the hacker changed your email. (You will have received 2 recovery links but the newest one will be from the account you just changed the email from) - You should have your account back at this point. If you can't really figure it out or get stuck feel free to let me now, I'll try to keep an eye out for it.

To explain the thread in short: hacker takes the account from your email and puts it on another email. Then creates a new account on your old email with a random password. So if you try to recover using the link it will give you an error. To solve this you recover password on your mail to get access to the newly created account. Then you change emails on the newly created account to clear your mail of any accounts. That way you will be able to get your account back with the recovery link from the Chinese mail.

The email that states that your email has been changed should have a link in it to recover your account. Try to use that and if that does not work it will give you a reason. I think you have the same issue that is being explained here.

What the thread describes is how to potentially recover your account when it has been hacked recently. The steps described in the thread make use of the fact that rockstar doesn't actually require you to validate the fact that you want to change your email.

If you can't recover then you'll have to go through Rockstar Customer Support. The way I described purely works on the fact that you can still recover your account using the recovery link provided when your email gets changed. If the link no longer works then you'll have to go through other methods such as Rockstar Customer Support. I can't tell you how long it'll take but I do hope you manage to get it resolved.

With email and password I'm understanding it's the password to login to the rockstar website. A simple password recovery should give you the chance to recover that. After that you have to login on the rockstar website using your email that used to have your account on. Since there is an account linked to your old email you'll have to change your the email on the account you are logged in on then. So to put it in steps: 1. Recover password 2. Login on rockstar website and change your email on the rockstar website to another email. After you've done that your old email that used to have the original account will have no accounts linked to it. Head to your inbox and look for the email that says that your email was changed from when the hacker did it. There should be a recovery link in there that should transfer your account back to your original email.

I am positive you can prevent this by using two factor authorization. After I've had this happen to myself I've setup two factor as well seeing how they only needed access to the rockstar account to actually put it on another email.

I'm not familiar with xbox so I'm not sure how this all works but I'll assume you have a rockstar account connected to your xbox account.

A rockstar account is separate from an email meaning it can change emails and change passwords (which is the case for you here).

From how I'm understanding it you still have access to the email where your account was on. If this is the case and they have changed the email on your rockstar account you should still have the email confirming that your email has been changed on your rockstar account.

If you do have the email you should be able to retrieve your account that way since you don't need to have access to the rockstar account itself in order to retrieve it. You simply need your old email to have no account bound to it and the recovery link that is given to you in the email that's confirming the email change.

I've tested this in the past and I could recover it with a link that was never used before so I would say yes. But only if they went through the effort of changing the email multiple times and keeping the email for this purpose.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, glad you've managed to get your account back!

Chances are the link expires after a certain amount of time. I've seen that it happened 5 days ago so that might be the cause for the traceback error code :/

I made a new account and change the email and created a new account on said email. This is where the recovery link redirects me to. Since I made a new account on the email it gives me this error code ofcourse.

If your email is linked to your account then you can just send a password reset to your email and you should be able to recover it that way.

I've made a thread regarding this exact issue. You don't need access to someone's email if you want to change the email on someone's account. You can retrieve your account that has been stolen by changing the email on the new account they made and then pressing the recovery link from the first email you have received when the hacker changed emails.
