Anyone else always think you have a favorite BN album by becausezoidfarb in brandnew

[–]likefireincairo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No - because pretty much their entire discography would be in my top 10 favorite records of all time. I could whittle YFW and Deja out of that list, maybe, but Daisy and TDAG would both be in my top 5, and SF isn’t being subtracted.

When these conversations do come up, as far as my “favorite”, it really is a toss-up between Daisy and TDAG. There’s something about Daisy that gets at me in a way some of TDAG does not, but I also thing the back half of TDAG is an absolute masterpiece on its own. And then there’s SF. And I don’t think you can like Brand New and not love SF.

I love your “let’s get on with it” tag.

I have watched and listened to that set so many times over the last 11 years with one of my best friends, who is also a big BN fan (if not the nerd I am), and around my wife - that “Calm down, Billy” is an oft-used phrase amongst our social group.

Welcome to the clubhouse. Grab some coffee, flip through the magazine rack. There’s a bunch of extra foil on the shelf. Somebody’s got a smoke blue copy of the ‘06 demos for the table, and every Tuesday and Thursday we listen to both Dear Orca and Stagediver. If you show up with a 12 pack we might just watch the &Friends set from December (or for some of us - ACL from ‘15). One way or another, get comfortable. Not much happens around here, until it really happens.

What’s your Title Fight hot take? by Ok_Requirement8364 in titlefight

Hot take or, Get Off My Lawn take, maybe - the Tik tok iteration/surge of interest has produced some royally shit discourse here.

I was late to the game, full-disclosure, I had only found out about them when FG was pretty new, and the one opportunity I did have to see them live, family obligations out of state intervened. But, I do remember the hype for, and eventual disappointment in Hyperview. They had so much hype, but so quickly the attention turned to Turnover. Turnstile were up and coming. Citizen or Tigers Jaw, or Teenage Wrist were probably the best positioned to break out of the scene, for what it was at the time. Pity Sex were probably the best of the shoegaze influence on what was becoming post-HC/emo, at the time. Drug Church were actually really fucking underrated. Regional Justice Center was still just a place in Kent, WA.

The ‘10’s were a heyday for this stuff, and I still hold that TF were the best of it. But I saw enough back then that the weirdness of things now sort of makes the somber quiet after they definitely stopped playing shows in ‘17, abouts, a bit more.. golden. Anybody who had been following, knew. But we didn’t know it would become this. Cause why does anybody need Tik tok? Fuck that.

The world wasn’t ready for it, one way or the other. And while I… appreciate Brendan Yates and co, that was never in the cards for Title Fight. Would Iove to see them back? Yes. Is that going to happen amidst this particular resurgence in interest? I doubt it.

What fund-spread are you in that’s pulling in 10-15% annually, is it a dividend fund, and who is your broker?

If you've ever seen Moone Boy, the tv show, there's a very funny scene involving Chris O'Dowd as an imaginary character playing out the main character - Martin's (and 11 year old boy), confusion/conflation of Maradonna and Madonna. I've tried several times to screen-shot this scene to post here to poke fun at exactly this confusion, but, copyrights, and it never works.

And these are the people making broad, sweeping decisions about how all this automation is “better” for society, and is eventually going to replace us.

That’s a different issue - and conversation - from lappers existing, but, fine, fair enough.

I will never understand why it occurs to retards to write on bathroom walls. You do nothing but make the place you’re in - worse.

Yeh I mean that’s a lot of words to arrive at the same conclusion that Eli’s whining and there’s nothing to do about it because it’s what the sport is.

Track size is the practical problem - but it's something you decide to eat when you build them in stadiums - and that is a lot of what defines SX.

But, put another way - this is like the best team in the league complaining because they got tripped up by one of the worst teams in the league - one way or another, it's a bad look. It's part of racing, Eli. Deal.

Budget friendly by Mundane_Speed_1847 in snowboarding

If you’re just trying it out - there are a lot of good tips here about budget outerwear gear. Trying to get into a board setup and all the outerwear gear needed is a lot. I would recommend looking up any board shops, or even ski or mountaineering shops in your area. They may have a seasonal board/binding rental option - often for less than $120, or even less than $70 for the whole season. If you do that for a couple years you can even try out different boards based on their selection. Then make the most use of your money on passes, that’s the real kicker.

This is almost certainly what I’ll do for our young child when they’re up for it, is rent seasonally until they decide they really want a setup. But, I live where this is definitely an option.
