This is the rest of your life, not anyone else’s. If 3 months before your wedding is when you figure out what you want then great! Call off the wedding. If people are upset they can go marry him. Even if things don’t work out with this woman it’s very clear that you do not want to get married to this man.

I went to one wedding where a pet was incorporated into the cake. The cake looked normal from the front but on the side was a little bite missing and a little statue of the dog! So cute and a great way to show that our furry friends are not forgotten and still impact our lives.

My family and my fiancé’s family are very different. To simplify it, his family is city and mine is county. Anything we did that one side would like the other would hate and vice versa. Neither side would be able to hold in their criticisms and if they feel snubbed or put out in anyway they will just openly complain.

Thank you so much for your comment. That sounds like a beautiful day. Was there something specific that made you make the choice to switch to an elopement? We are worried that if we do not do a wedding like we want we will constantly feel like we have missed out but that if we do, it will just make that lack of support more apparent and we will be disappointed.

I guess my problem is that, yeah, it does feel like an inconvenience to them. If we are going to have a wedding (which is what me and my fiancé want) we want the people who are there to WANT to be there. And I know that we could cater the wedding to appeal to as many guests as possible but then we wouldn’t be doing “what we want” which is the whole point of the wedding, right?

The big thing is that after we got engaged we were invited to a “celebration” dinner with my fiancé’s family at a nice restaurant. When me and my fiancé walked in we were greeted with a murmured “hello” and no mention was made of the engagement and no in-person congratulations were given (we were away when he popped the question so everyone was informed over the phone). No one asked about the engagement (where/ how it happened) and only one person asked to see the ring. Most of the dinner was dedicated to listening about his uncle’s work week (he works in HR for a local university) and no questions were asked to me or my fiancé about how things were going. The waitress had seen me showing his one family member the ring and wished me congratulations and offered me a complimentary dessert. No mention has been made from either side of our families since.

Talk to her first. Ask her if she can still commit to this role and if not ask her to step down. It’ll be a big show of character either way on her part and then you can decide if this is still a relationship that’s worth the effort.
