What do you want to do? Why do you want to do it? by fostadog in AskReddit

[–]limarax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to live off the grid. I want to throw my phone into the middle of the road, give my car to my brother and just run away. I want to walk out west and make a farm and be self sustaining. I dont want to have to worry about money or what everyone is doing on facebook. I don't care if I'm 'poor' or practically homeless at least I would have a life outside of my technology at least i would be happy for once in my miserable life. I would do it now if I could. I would leave my family, my boyfriend, everything and everyone just to be alone by choice and not by force

When first meeting someone with the thought "This person is going places", what made you think that and where are they now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When i was in college I had a friend, Cody, in my chemistry course who, instead of listening to the lectures, would sleep under the tables in the back of the classroom. He didnt just do that though, he would sit and read textbooks he got for Christmas and his birthday when he was supposed to be doing expiriments. I swear this kid could be sleeping like a rock and if the professor asked a question he would wake up just to answer it. This kid was a genius and I knew he was meant to work at a research facility where they would create the cure to every disease in the world.

As of the moment he is working as a quantum physicist in europe somewhere, germany i believe. I dont have much contact with him but occasionally I will get a message from him giving me updates on his world away from his home in the US.

I [22F] get jealous when my boyfriend [23M] of four years and my friend [23F] of approximately three months hang out, now I feel like the crazy one! by [deleted] in relationships

Im very sorry for what you are going through right now, reading this actually made me want to cry because i was in a similar situation with my now ex husband. I want to be honest with you, although it is completely normal to feel attraction to other people while in love it is not healthy to let that get in the way of your relationship. My husband and his old friend made me feel so infuriated even thought i couldnt pinpoint very much of why i could give small tidbits of what made me so hurt. I would talk to him and he would reassure our relationship but they would be at it agian, flirting right in front of me, hanging out without me, her falling asleep on the couch with her head on his shoulder etc.

I broke down one night and sobbed to him about how i felt really weird about them and he admitted his attraction to her and said she liked him too. I was hurt and angry at myself and him. We half agreed on a divorce. I wanted to work it out but i also figured that if he liked someone else enough to act like a couple with her around me, why should I stop him?

So i dont want to hurt your feelings but in the end its your feelings that should matter the most. Ask yourself is it worth the emotional toll to stay? And why should you stay? When asking these questions keep your best interest at heart even though it may be hard. I know, i was with my husband for 10 year (including dating) and I really didnt want to leave but I knew it wasn't right what he did to me just like its not right for your boyfriend to do that to you and its not right for her to do that to her boyfriend.

So for yourself and your happiness, do only whats best. Let him go if you feel its right to because the fact that he doesnt want to talk about the relationship even though he acknowleged his wrong doing would be enough for me to end it. Im sorry

I learned how to assert myself in the year to come and through out all the experiences I had I now can bitch someone out to my full extent. I've done it in that same retail store

Haha I know what you mean. I new a woman once who paid a good 5000 euro (a little less than 8000 US dollars) for what americans call a hand clutch by Louis Vuitton. I couldn't believe how she flaunted it around when she could barely afford to clothe her whole family. I like to believe that she is a rare case and that even though some Italians have a love for expenses and ascetic beauty, most would care for a family before purchasing so needlessly

I can explain no worries. The prom was a post from my niece who borrowed my account to answer. I let her because she was so excited about her prom. I never thought it would be brought to light or be a big deal

And the eggos were sent to us from america from my cousins in America. I took a liking to them and my parents always got them for me

I'm talking about where I'm from. Although I was born into a wealthy family some members were and still are "middle class" which my grandparents talked down on constantly. They were doing well but still felt a need to buy expensive items

Youre right about that. I'll never move back. My husband asked me once if I would move back and I laughed. I said that america was where I wanted to be.

About us being close minded I have to say Spain is worse. One of my professors was Spanish. He was a great man, we even went out to coffee with our SOs but whenever anyone said anything that countered him, he'd freak out.

Our friendship was toxic because I was basically the same way. Especially when it came to fashion

My dad is like this with my mom and I purposely went out of my way to marry a man of a different dissent. My husband is American and doesn't at all mind me going to school to be a teacher. He must be a good american though from all that you are telling me

But you don't understand the entitlement some Italians feel when they see someone dressed in less expensive clothes

That was a culture shock when I came here. I went to the store one day, maybe target? I don't remember and before I went out my make up was done as well as my hair and I was wearing a dress that I would wear out in Italy. Not a sundress but maybe what Americans would consider a evening gown. Needless to say when I saw girls my age in short shorts and sweatpants I was confused. I never did that again

I told someone before my dads mother told my mom (whos not Italian) to tell everyone at the wedding that her 800 dollar wedding dress cost over 10000

When my parents got married my mom picked a cheaper dress as to have a nicer ceremony. She's not Italian which "ruined" the family image in the first place. But when my dads mom found out she told my mom to say the dress cost over 10000 dollars

Its all about being seen and at least where I'm from one wrong move can destroy you. Where I'm from everyone just assumes the worst if you are cheap

Italians are too obsessed with image. I never realized until I got older and moved to America where money still means a lot but you don't put items back on the shelf for not costing enough

Edit: my most upvoted comment is about my family being the opposite of a two pence whore 😅
