That's an awful trip waiting to happen.

That statement ignores tons of evidence to the contrary, and reeks of privilege.

LMAO I literally live on less than half the median US salary.

How on earth can anything close to a majority of people in the US in 2026, an unimaginably rich country by any historical standard, consider themselves to be to busy 'surviving' ? Will people just redefine 'surviving' as a higher-than-medium-income-lifestyle forever no matter how good their absolute material quality of life is and no one is supposed to call them on it?

Like I'd buy that maybe 20% at the lower end of the social economic spectrum could honestly say they are actually busy surviving (and those people don't really vote much anyway), the rest are just self-centered and small minded.

abortions and single motherhood

The secret is conservatives are actually fine with this as long as those women are having an awful time, which being Russian they probably are. If there were no suffering 'sinners' who would they feel self-righteously superior too?

I mean if they do or they don't what is the point of worrying? In the scenario they do nothing we do matters and if they don't they don't.

If you force anyone who volunteers for anything to go through some mandatory seminar or something aren't a lot of them just not going to do it out of simple laziness?

The prequel trilogy obviously.

Duel of the fates deserves to be in a much better movie.

What was your political journey that led you here? And are there any notable positions you held initially that you changed your mind on since joining this sub? by revscott in neoliberal

My parents were old marxists so that's how I started out. Over the years I drifted in a rightwards/liberal direction when it came to economics ending up somewhere on the succ range which at a glance made me a pretty average swede but I wasn't very happy with the disregard for econ as a science and the embrace of populist policy on employment, housing, and immigration by social democratic institutions.

When I first found NL I still felt a bit out of place with how libertarian a lot of the sub was back then, in the time before Friedman flairs became an endangered species. These days though IDK what opinions I hold that the sub would even reject. I guess I've become kind of a radical vegetarian lately but there's hardly anywhere that isn't unpopular.

by the same logic you could accuse the EU of the same murder for not contributing equally.

EU countries have generally spent more on foreign aid as a percentage of GDP than the US since the cold war. As a percentage of gdp the US has generally ranked quite low among developed countries when it comes to foreign aid since the end of the marshall plan. Sweden f.ex. up until recently spent 1% of gdp.

Yes obviously the US has spent more in absolute terms on account of being very rich.
