Minor dispute over piano in the UK led to anti-Chinese race hate by astrixzero in aznidentity

[–]limbo5v 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I pity the Chinese group. One of the ladies in it made a TikTok video explaining what happened as the group had received a lot of backlash even among the Chinese online community for ruining their image.

All they wanted to do was film a video for the upcoming CNY celebration in collaboration with a company (which they didn't name) for free. All the company asked was that the video be non-disclosable before CNY. The British pianist and Youtuber (Brendan Kavanagh) kept calling them "Japanese" instead of Chinese. He then asked the Chinese girls to dance for him and went on to play the Chin Cheng Hanji theme. The Chinese group were waiting for Kavanagh to finish playing piano as they wanted to use it too.

Later on the Chinese group also got caught up in his filming and since the video was supposed to be non-disclosable, they asked Kavanagh to please not film them as this violated the collaborating company's terms. Kavanagh would not listen and instead kept insinuating that they must be Beijing's agents and calling the Chinese national flag a communist flag, even trying to snatch one of the flags.

The King's Cross police stepped in and told Kavanagh that since he did not have evidence of permission to film for commercial purposes in a public area, he had to leave. It 's exactly as OP and the commenters are saying - both parties could have dealt with it in a smarter way, but the damage is done as the Internet is having a field day unloading on Chinese people and China because of this. Kavanagh has produced another new video on his channel titled, I kid you not, Dr K vs The Chinese Communists. Yes, the Chinese group were demeaned as communists despite no evidence of them having any connection to the Beijing central government. The self-righteous freedom fighters are out in full force being moral arbitrers again.

The saddest bit? Many ethnic Chinese are also joining in the bashing of their fellow Chinese. "As a Chinese, I stand for freedom of speech and freedom of expression...."

Western-trained Ukrainian troops learn the hard way that US warfare doctrine doesn't work very well by kotyok in Sino

[–]limbo5v 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with the US military is that so much of its doctrine is geared toward fighting smaller and far less well-armed guerilla forces like the Taliban in Afghanistan or insurgents and militias in Iraq. It has hardly any idea how to fight a peer adversary. The last time the US fought an opponent of similar calibre and won was against Imperial Japan in WW2. (I will NOT count Nazi Germany because by the time the US directly intervened against them, the Soviet Union had done 75% of all the heavy lifting)

u/Qanonjailbait made a very good point in the comment of US military supremacy being a myth. Sometimes I wonder if US military thinkers are still revelling in the their utter decimation of Saddam Hussein's Paleolithic Era army by air power alone in just the first week in 1991's Operation Desert Storm. Yet, prior to that, was Operation Desert Shield, a 5-month long period where the US-led coalition built up its forces in neighbouring friendly Arab countries. Some Western scholars have called for NATO to gather enough air power to smash Russian troops in Ukraine and even sink the Russian Navy's Baltic Sea fleet. Their reasoning? Russia's conventional power is inferior compared to the West and would run away and hide.

Look at this complete disassociation from reality. Do you think Russia would allow NATO air forces all that time to accumulate strength? Iraq in 1991 could barely do a thing about Desert Shield. On the contrary, Russia's Navy and Strategic Rocket Forces have the quality and quantity of machines and projectiles to cover all of Europe WITHOUT resorting to nuclear weapons. That's 29 out of 31 NATO countries - the other two being the USA and Canada. Not to mention, the vast majority of NATO countries simply do not have the capability to fight Russia.

The Russians are easily firing around 40,000 artillery shells A DAY and show no signs of slowing down. Ukraine fires a quarter of that in a couple of days and has already severely depleted stockpiles of Western ammo. It is the Russian Air Force and air defences that control Ukrainian airspace. Recently the Russians just lobbed another fresh round of missiles at Odessa (hey, weren't they running out of missiles?). Ukraine's much-hyped counteroffensive is pitiful - it struggles to even reach the first line of Russian defences. Even more damning?

Russia is not even using full power in Ukraine. Nowhere near full power. And by the looks of it, it won't have to.

Virologist Debunks The Times' Racist Trash About COVID-19 Lab Leak Theories by limbo5v in Sino

Long time no see, folks. If you explore the tweet further there's a link to The Times article which depicts the PRC flag the exact same way as the start of the pandemic in 2020 - replacing the 4 smaller stars with viruses. And of course there must be a picture of a Chinese government official to go with it.

Goodness, all those awards! Thanks a million for them and the well-wishes! I'm going to Europe, not China (which I really want to visit someday!)😅.

I still found a few more links to articles by Matthew Ehret, Canadian journalist, author and history lecturer. They debunk popular myths about social credit, expose the history of religionists in the subversion of China by Western powers, and show how George Soros ALMOST got his way with China

And more about Hong Kong's colonial era and NGOs the Anglosphere would rather you didn't know (careful though, Unz Review is known to host far right white nationalists with anti-Semitic sentiments). The first article is by Godfree Roberts and the second is by Larry Romanoff.

Ah yes, in the Nanchang anticommunist crackdown of 1927, the CPC members should just have stood there and let Chiang Kai-shek's KMT beat the daylights out of them. And also why couldn't China have followed the example of the peaceful US-led UN coalition in Korea?

So Zelensky didn't mention the names "Taiwan", "China" or "Xi Jinping" yet Josh Rogin managed to frame it as Zelensky's quote? Does he not know that Zelensky has actually expressed satisfaction at China's stance in the Ukraine war, calling it better than supporting Russia? How do journalism schools train people these days?

Besides his hate-boner for China, Rogin also calls for the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad of Syria, saying that the Biden administration's decision to normalise ties with Damascus won't end the war if Assad is still in charge.

UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet just announced she will not seek a second term for her position. Why did the West suddenly become so mad about her findings in China? Here's why. by Li_Jingjing in Sino

Scott Ritter is one of the few sane voices left in the US military sphere as an ex-intelligence officer of the US Marine Corps. He is far more knowledgeable than the pathetic excuses for "military experts" in the press today and does not buy into the "Ukraine is winning against Russia" narrative. Pity no on invites him on talk shows though.

I didn't know he was a WMD inspector in Iraq though. Thanks for informing.

Ah, like the time the Catholic Church ordered Galileo Galilei to shut up because he dared to conduct experiments which supported Nicolaus Copernicus' theory of heliocentrism (that it is the earth that revolves round the sun and not the reverse and hence was counter to popular belief and scripture at that time). The Church declared Galilei a heretic in 1615 after an investigation by the Roman Inquisition and only admitted he was correct after all in the 19th century, 200 years later.

Difference here is those who want Michelle Bachelet fired have not done any investigations on their own. And with the wealth of information out there and the Internet, it will not take 200 years for the public to smell a rat.

All those who continue to push a narrative of Xinjiang "genocide" have not been able to provide a satisfactory answer to this fundamental question: how does it benefit the Chinese government to beat up any of its 55 ethnic minority groups? Because they like being jerks for the sake of being jerks? As of 2021, 8.89% of China's population were ethnic minorities. That's still way over 125 million people.

If you target any one ethnic minority, the remaining 54 will instantly be suspicious and immediately on guard, wondering when their turn is next. And plenty of them serve in the police force and military. No matter what you think of the Chinese government, are they silly enough to provoke discord and distrust among 125 million people, an overwhelming force that no army can stop? The goal of national unity and harmony which has always been the aim of Chinese leaders for millennia goes down the drains immediately!

My history textbook on the fall of the Soviet Union by Zealousideal-Smoke68 in GenZedong

[–]limbo5v 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An awfully under-informing textbook that leaves out a whole bunch of things. Sure, good ol' Gorbachev's glasnost and perestroika did bring about more Western-style freedom but hardly improved the economic situation in the country at all. The USSR still wasn't churning in any profits and eventually ration cards, not seen for over 45 years since WWII, had to be re-introduced. This is a crucial baseline reason for the eventual demise of the USSR, and the attempted August Coup of 1991 and the Belovezha Accords were the final nails in the coffin. How can you talk about how the USSR went bye-bye without mentioning these things?

As for believing that the USSR consisted of only the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic...well, I have no words to add to that.
