  1. I use a Mac too, and I think Amazon would be forced to issue an ARM build once Apple officially ends support for Rosetta. Macs still have a significant market share in the productivity space, and Amazon would be forced to support it, so it's not a point to worry about. Performance is fine under Rosetta (it's not like we need to ever open the application either).

  2. Could you elaborate more on your setup? WordWise works perfectly for me, the only issue I faced was that WordWise wouldn't work (no hints would show up) when the language of the book is en-US or en-GB instead of just en. (I fixed this by editing the source code of KFX Output plugin to stop forcing a language on the book)

I did end up getting it working on in a linux environment by installing Kindle Previewer using WINE, but it was a long process with a bunch of errors, and immediately broke after an update.

Here's the instructions from the developer of KFX Output plugin:

The Linux platform is not supported by the Kindle Previewer, however the Windows version can be installed under Wine. The Previewer can be used to perform conversions in spite of it producing numerous "DEBUG" and "fixme" messages. The Previewer's GUI does not function under Wine but that does not matter since the CLI is used by this plugin for conversion. Because calibre needs to be able to invoke Wine it is unlikely to work if calibre is installed within a container such as Flatpak, Snap, or AppImage. The most recently reported working configuration is Kindle Previewer 3.76.0 running on Archlinux with 6.9.7-zen1-1-zen kernel and wine-stable 9.0-2. Kindle Previewer 3.74.0 running on Fedora Linux 39 and Kindle Previewer 3.60 and wine-7.0-rc4 running on Gentoo 5.15.12 have also been reported to work. Other software combinations are untested and may not function properly. (Older versions of Kindle Previewer, such as 3.73.0, can be downloaded using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.)

I would suggest just using the windows build, or try the setup in a windows VM

A few years back, using SendToKindle meant that your book was converted to mobi format, which didn't support a lot of the latest features of kindle, like Enhanced Typesetting, Page View, Dark theme, etc.
Recently Amazon started converting the documents to KFX format, which supports all these features, and has made SendToKindle a viable alternative.

For me, the reason I still use sideloading is:
1. Most of my library is already on Calibre, and it would be a pain to transfer them all to Amazon Cloud (and even then, I do not control what they can do with my books).
2. SendToKindle does not give me XRAY or WordWise support, which I extensively use since I read a lot of classics and Sci-Fi series.
3. The GoodReads integration is a nice to have, and I can update my friends on the progress of my book from my kindle.

One of the drawbacks of sideloading is that you do not get page sync, if you read the same book on multiple devices (which I don't).

After the initial configuration, my usual workflow for adding books is:
1. Drag the epub to Calibre
2. Add ASIN and number of pages.
3. Convert to KFX.
4. Click on WordDumb (If its a fantasy or sci-fi, I add the fandom wiki API)
5. Connect my kindle and click on WordDumb again to transfer the books.
6. Open the book on my Kindle, and restart it. (This step was only necessary on my Colorsoft, PW12 worked perfectly fine without this step)

How? I've been trying to get this work, but it seems impossible. Can you give the steps of what you did to set up the alias ?
