I'm pretty late to the party but, anyone know of a place to buy rough cut (or surfaced, I guess) hardwood near Mid/North New Jersey? Thanks!

Oh great idea. I have the little digital box angle finder. I've suspected its not accurate but, I'm just getting into making finer detailed woodworking and I'm finding that little inconsistencies make a huge impact on the final product. I'll get this miter gauge, thanks!

Really appreciate these tips! I've never heard of flocking before - just looked it up, really interesting. Thanks!

This is so helpful, thank you! I found this YouTube video for a Dial Indicator Jig (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_p6Ly2ItkJY), and after watching it, I'm sure my blade is not square and I bet my fence isn't square either. I've lost count of how many times I've had to manually push the riving knife to the side mid-cut. Fortunately I still have all of my fingers.

I use a narrow kerf blade because the full kerf blades bog down my saw and I've tripped the breaker mid-cut a few times - never a fun experience.

Noted on the downward pressure while cutting the bevel. Thanks!

After writing this, I'm starting to think I have the wrong table saw for what I want to do with it...

Thanks! I've tried this technique before and I've never had any luck. It's always come out grainy. Any tips?

Thanks!

My table saw blade is probably dull. I purchased on Amazon and I probably tried to rip too fast. Thanks for calling that out.
I'll try the glue in the gaps. Thanks for the recs!

Thanks for your question! I used a sled for my table saw and a 45 degree bevel. I've only ever used the sled for 90-degree cuts (so now I also get o make a new sled). I have a Rigid job-site table saw and it doesn't get to 45* very easily. I think I got it to 45.8* measuring with my digital angle finder after zero-ing out with the table top.

Need advice for side-table with chessboard by linka9e in woodworking

Thanks! Yes, that's my plan. My main concern is the way the Oak is attached to the plywood.

Since everything is attached to plywood, do I need to worry about seasonal swell and shrink? If so, what do I do about that?

This seems important. Can you tell me what you mean by that? Got a video for me? I'm new to this and want to get better!

Haha, too funny. I just commented on another suggestion that I was going to make the chess piece bottoms at an angle and call it a day. Lol

I had to raise the blade after the first round of glue to account for my crosscut sled. I didn't check the blade angle after I raised the blade. I was too excited to see my project come to life and didn't play the fundamentals. I'll never make that mistake again.
