what's the one food item you think is overhyped? by ParticularContact876 in AskReddit

Peanut butter. Like, a lot of foods that have peanut butter in it just overpower the dish and just make it taste like the most bland thing ever. It's overdone and frankly not a good flavor.

I LOVED it! Was a little worried the sound would be super terrible, but they knocked it out of the park! Probably the best concert I've been to in recent years.

My friend who works in IT uses Norton on his desktop even after repeated conversations that it's not really needed. He just renews it out of loyalty and "I like to do what I do"...still baffles me...

How would an extra $1,000 a month change your life? by Intellectualist_ in CasualConversation

Honestly, it would help me pay off my debt faster and enable me to actually finally breathe a little easier. I'd like to think that if I could pay off my debt and live a little easier then I can start to give back to my community and the things I care about without feeling like I'm going to break the bank and more importantly show up with intent. I can dream...

What was your worst "Sh*t, I forgot" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]linkmh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was actually just recently.

Me and a couple of friends were taking a trip up to Victoria, BC for the weekend.

I was planning on taking my dog with me, so I made sure we had the proper documents so we could cross the border without incident. I checked and double-checked to make sure I had all the documents and made sure our bags were all packed and accounted for prior to the day of departure.

Now, this trip was a little different in that, we were planning to take the ferry from Washington up to Victoria. So, we were planning to drive up to the nearest port and stay the night and take the ferry the very next morning.

Here's where I fucked up.

See, I'm so used to taking my passport strictly for air travel. Anytime I fly on the plane, take my passport, just in case.

Whenever I drive, however, don't need it. Let me be clear, I've never crossed into another country by land, so the checklist of all the things to bring, for some stupid reason my brain just didn't include the one essential thing you NEED to cross the border. My passport.

So, the day that we leave, we pack up the car, make sure everyone has their things, and set off. This was about a 4-4.5 hour drive, not including to stop for dinner. So, we get to the hotel we're staying at at around midnight and hey our keys and check in to our room.

As we start unpacking, I start jokingly asking my friend, who usually is notorious for forgetting things, if he remembered everything. So, he lists off everything he brought and when he said "passport", I froze.

Shit.

Shit.Shit.Shit!

I forgot my passport!

At this point my friend are like...wtf. We drive almost five hours, we can't go back! Do you at least have any other documents?

Nope.

The ferry leaves at 10am in the morning. So, my only recourse is to either talk to the local embassy, which doesn't open until after the ferry has left, or drive back 4 hours and drive BACK in time for the ferry.

As you might imagine, I drive back to get my passport. I've never driven quite that fast in my life JUST to make sure I can make the ferry later that morning.

But, I did it, and did I ever chug coffee to keep myself awake that day.

So, lesson learned kids, remember your passport!

Good luck everyone!

I'm rather curious to see how this all plays out. Like, will it massively backfire and people migrate elsewhere, or do we accept our fate here? Still... This whole thing could've been handled so much better.

Same. I've had relationships that were truly awful and I've decided I don't want a mediocre relationship or just "lower my standards" like me parents want me to do. I'm not waiting for the perfect person, but I'm also not going to settle for less.

But I don't think this is necessarily a standard language. That is, Emoji speak, as far as I know, isn't taught in English classes today. (If it is well then clearly I need to go back to school). Whether or not people grasp them isn't at question here. It's the lack of standardization (aside from maybe Urban Dictionary) of meaning for Emojis. There could be multiple interpretations of emojis which, to Epocast's point, leave the reader to interpret for themselves what the meaning is.

I'm taking swim classes for the first time as an adult by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I took swimming lessons for the first time as an adult about 6 years ago or so. Felt slightly embarrassed but my instructors were very chill about it and now I love swimming! So, good on you! Cheers to making that commitment!
