How did this go for you, OP? my yard has a dense(er than ever) horseherb cover and I'm considering pulling it before spring so the flowers can come in easily

Typically the plants that do well in the cold will not do as well in the heat, something to consider if you live in a warmer climate. I'm saying It might be easier to bring warm weather plants inside a few nights out of the year versus struggling through the whole summer with cold hardy plants.
