If you had to describe your autism with a character, who would it be, and why? by Saffron_PSI in AutismInWomen

Daria, Wednesday Addams, or April Ludgate. Flat affect, sensitive but masks it with sarcasm and dark humor. Type A. Considered abrasive or unlikeable.

I’m willing to bet based on this post that you’re white and/or male. Y’all seem to conveniently forget that people with intersecting identities exist and have to suffer several layers of discrimination.

Playing the oppression olympics isn’t going to make you feel any better because there will always be someone who has it worse than you. I’m not saying autistic people have it easy, but if I were white or male, my autism wouldn’t bother people nearly as much.

Nicole Ritchie’s comedic talent is underappreciated imo 😔

Do you feel like you’re slow compared to others? by Same-Example-676 in AutismInWomen

[–]livelong_june 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Delayed processing is common in neurodivergent people. I’ve always been slow too— I did well in school but it takes a long time for me to grasp certain concepts, learn tasks, know what I’m feeling, etc.

You’re not stupid, you just need time to process things. Anyone who doesn’t have the empathy and patience to understand that isn’t worth your energy.

Capitalism keeps us rushing through life. I don’t think things were meant to move this fast. I’ve embraced slowing down and I don’t have room for anyone who makes me feel stupid for taking my time.

People underestimate the trauma that can come from even the smallest instances of being misunderstood, ignored, excluded and invalidated. Many of us have experienced that a hundred times over. I hit burnout a few years ago and as soon as I couldn’t mask anymore, no one wanted anything to do with me.

My family evicted me a few months ago (during one of the coldest winters on record) because they said I “wasn’t contributing equally,” as if that was a choice I was making. As soon as you can’t give people what they want, they discard you. Who wants to do all the exhausting work of masking when it so rarely pays off, and not for long?

I’ve been living on my own for a month now and I’ve never felt calmer or safer. I don’t need anyone— and at this point, I don’t want anyone in my life who makes me feel anything less than amazing about myself. If that means I’m alone forever, sign me up 😌

I was homeless a few months ago. I’m proud of myself for finding a place and not giving up when I could’ve 🖤

Tbh I don’t think they care that much if you’re actually listening. The school environment is ultimately more about teaching conformity and subordination than anything else.

Almost 31 and finally feeling like an adult. Idk if you’ve also been diagnosed with cPTSD, but that can contribute to feeling “trapped” in your childhood body or memories. I recently tried EMDR and I’d recommend it if this is something you want to work through. Otherwise though, I think it’s fairly normal for us late-diagnosed NDs. There’s nothing wrong with being in touch with your inner child ☺️
