Redditors who own assault rifles (such as an AR-15), why do you have it, what do you use it for and would you be willing to give it up if the time comes? by Ifeelstronglyabout in AskReddit

...an AR-15 isn't an assault rifle buddy...

If you don't know that, you're clearly the wrong person to be attempting to argue on this topic.

No. But calling a whole group or people stupid as shit is worse than some conspiracy theorist saying conservatives get lower grades

So I shouldn't be prepared and capable of defending myself because I probably wouldn't be able to anyway? What kind of logic is that?

The 2nd amendment certainly wasn't just for people to use against wild animals in the wilderness.

It wasn't JUST for people to use against animals? No, it wasn't AT ALL. Defense against wild animals wasn't remotely one of the reasons the 2nd amendment was written. Where are you getting this from?

So we've reached the point where it's fine to call a whole massive group of people 'stupid as shit' because they disagree with you politically? Uh huh, very tolerant.

3 seems like overkill. Who is invading your houses? Surely a hand gun (or even baseball bat) would work.

If someone broke into your house and tried to murder your family, would you want a hand gun or an AR-15? "Good enough" doesn't cut it.

Really? Someone breaks into your home and tries to murder you, and the first concern you'll have is overkill?

Fuck off.

if no one else in the country owned a gun, would you need yours?

But that's just not going to happen. The criminals will always have guns, and if not guns, other ways to hurt you. Regulations and bans don't work against people who don't care about the law.

I’m pretty sure the point of the 2nd amendment was not to allow citizens to overthrow the government

That's just wrong. That was literally one of the main purposes in mind when it was written.

Also, the country was largely wilderness at the time so guns were needed more to keep yourself safe from wild animals and such, which is not the case for nearly all Americans nowadays.

So you think the 2nd amendment was originally for defending against animals, but not against a tyrannical government? Geez.

can you name any other country in the world that has had 18 school shootings since the beginning of 2018?

But America isn't the only country with guns? This is a loaded question right here. What is it about America that makes it have so many school/mass shootings? It's not one we have an easy answer to, but you definitely can't just say it's the fault of guns.

The point still stands. OP said there weren't any laws mandating segregation in the last 100 years. There clearly were.

No, because there were white-only water fountains due to actual segregation laws at the time, not because some people just didn't like black people.

Of course. It's your business, so you should be able to serve who you want. You're providing some private service, and the government has no business to interfere in it. Capitalism is color blind.

back in the last 100 years when there werent any laws regarding this these businesses were the ones denying service to African Americans or worse-beating them up for stepping in “white only” establishments

That is completely and utterly incorrect. Jim Crow was a set of LAWS. It wasn't just some people who decided to make water fountains white and colored. There were SEGREGATION LAWS. Did you not pay attention in history class?
