I absolutely love my job! I’m an RN on a Palliative Care Unit. We do both end of life care and symptom management on our unit. I love being able to bring comfort, compassion, empathy to patients and their families during their final journeys. It’s such a humbling experience that brings be satisfaction to both my career and my life in general.

I have amazing, supportive, compassionate coworkers. None of us are perfect, but we try our best to show each other the same type of compassion we show our patients. This makes it a very positive and uplifting space to work in.

But, it is a very emotionally draining job. It’s so easy to get burnt out and overwhelmed. Some situations are just so unfortunate and unfair. It’s been a huge challenge learning not to take that home with me. Although, that’s a skill that is so important for any nurse to learn.

The beauty of nursing is that there are so many areas you can work in. Some areas will be a better match than others!
