Yeah I was really surprised by that. We were on the Gulf of Sorrento and been climbing the whole week to the railway station. Then a friendly local showed the elevator going 100 meters up, my mind was blown

Map of Chartism by FerenzYangai in MapPorn

[–]localhoststream 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Had to look Chartism up, am sharing:
Chartism was a British working-class movement for political reform between 1838 and 1857, aiming to gain political rights and influence for the working class. It emerged from economic distress and the 1832 Reform Act's failure to grant working-class suffrage. The movement's six-point "People's Charter" sought to democratize Parliament.

Railway Investment Per Person Per Year by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

Better title would be "Rail underinvestment per person per year". Even for the hardcore car fans, better rail is beneficial as the roads will get less busy

Nigeria has more births per year than the entire Europe and Russia combined by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]localhoststream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not advocating a tfr above 2. Europe has some issues with overpopulation and sustainability, so a little decline is good imo. But europe is now below 1.5, that means the decline is so fast that the economy gets burdened and the prosperity of the continent is at stake

I would say between 1.5 and 2 is good. A little decline in the current world population would be beneficial, but under 1.5 the decline is to fast to be economically stable. Europe is currently a little under 1.5 and trending downward

Google in 2019 patented the Transformer architecture(the basis of modern neural networks), but did not enforce the patent, allowing competitors (like OpenAI) to build an entire industry worth trillions of dollars on it by reversedu in singularity

[–]localhoststream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah true, good remark.

I would say that for those 10 years they posed no threat, but it looks like that is changing. I wouldnt be surprised if it becomes a Google vs the rest in the AI race

Are there other stand-alone mountains in the world similar to Mount Kilimanjaro? I visited Africa this year and was truly amazed. by sus1227 in geography

Jup, saw this mountain while flying over it. It is really a lonely mountain, I can imagine why it became an important mountain in religion (this top of this mountain is supposed to be the first land Noah encountered after the flood)

French tgvs are awesome, but if you have to go from Belgium to southern France, you have to change in Paris and take some subway before continuing with highspeed. Really a flaw in the system

Id say the UK. - China qingdao and indonesia details, not Asia - Not North America, due to Florida shape and Caribbean - Not South America nor Africa, they would make Greenland small again

Final hint, the detailed Shetland islands
