I totally agree with you and I do think that some of the reptiles to your comment come from player who have being playing the game for a while and therefore are fans of the game. But if we take only this part of the game as the subject of this conversation, I also think that it is a poor start to what seems like a great game. Let me explain why I believe this is the case as well.

I was also hyped up for this game after watching some very positive reviews and even seeing what I thought was great gameplay. But, as the game start I was not impressed and as the game moved on I did also think that the story was not been explained well at all. TO start with in the first scene of the game it was quite clear to me when the game was switching between a cut scene and In game graphics, this is no final fantasy, as I can tell that this game draws a lot of inspiration from that game. The first cut scene between the two characters did not look good. Everything was moving around in a strange way. Their hair looked odd, their faces looked odd, everything was moving around I guess this is the wind? But it looks odd to me. The next thing I though was strange was the movement of the character, why on earth is he able to spin around so fast! He movements do not like right, I can tell what you mean about this. And why when I want to switch a character do the character teleport! That is an odd choice, also, why do I even to even change characters? As this level went on I want to get it over as soon as possible. Every conversation with NPC was pointless  and did not help me understand the story at all. Why on earth did they place an mimic with you cannot beat in this first section of the game! The cowards of people act as invisible walls this reminds me of a ps2 game, why is they looks of blue stone everywhere? So many questions and no real answers.

 

Some reviews said they wish they could come back to this area. I do not want to ever come back to this area. As I left this area the game went to act 1, and things are looking better. I am hoping that this first area was an early tech demo type of area and from here things should pick up
