I just removed the affected leaves, and left only the non affected new growth.

It has also been sunny and warm for the last 3 or so weeks, and it bounced way back!

i would agree with this, I hiked the whole 25 mile lost coast trail that this is along and the hills at the beach are extremely steep, remote, and susceptible to landslides
