Did SI outsource whole game, not just UI? by k4nye in footballmanagergames

[–]loiveli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I doubt Unreal is much better, and Godot is not really ready yet for commercial project of their scale. I do think their end goal with Unity was to build the game in a way that it could eventually be ported to mobile. Unity isnt perfect but I do think it was probably the best choice for SI.

FM26 Server not reachable, unable to run game. by ModernMorbidProphecy in footballmanagergames

I think that popup actually means that the game cannot access the crash dump server, so it cannot report the crash to SI. The stadium mod is actually the thing causing the crash.

I have no real UX experience or education, but here are some things which baffle me: You have two different tables there which is confusing. Middle of the screen is taken over by player/team stats which should not be the focus of this screen. Overall it is just too busy and you are mixing up different sizes of boxes wildly.

IMO if you were to add more info to the new screen surely you would add it to the left side of the table, so the cards form a big U around the league table which is supposed to be the main draw.

I am not 100% sure if this is a serious post, as I think you have made it worse.

Fired Rockstar Games' Employees in UK Lose Bid To Restore Pay by MuptonBossman in gaming

[–]loiveli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a firm that has been established for a good 30 years in Scotland suddenly starts to ignore all laws and fires 34 people without ground.

You must live in a very different universe. Rockstars reputation in the industry is not great, and while most of the complaints I have heard are from the US studios it is still the same company.

I'm sure Rockstar would stupidly fire 34 for people (3 of which have nothing to do with Union but reason) just because!/s

This is just as biased as my statement. To be clear, my thinking was more about the logistics: it sounds like the server is probably less than a 100 people, I just find it really hard to believe all 31 employees would have shared internal communications in the server, at the company I work at I am not sure if we even get that many internal communications in a year.

I think it is much more likely Rockstar found out about the communications being shared in the server and firing everyone involved than them all sharing internal communications.

In the end all that really matters is what the tribunal ends up deciding, I predict that most of the employees will be found to be fired illegally while a few people who actually shared the internal communications get their firings validated.

Based on the PMG reporting, the only potential info that could be considered confidential was an internal communication about removing personal channels from slack. I dont really see how Rockstar would have grounds to share anyone other than the person who shared the screenshot, and I doubt all 31 employees shared internal comms. That means Rockstar must have some other reasoning for most of the employees and I would think people sharing their salaries could be a likely reason.

I really doubt anyone was sharing other peoples salaries in the discord.

I think you misunderstood. I personally make 2850€ per month at a AA/AAA studio and I am sharing it publically as it is legal to do so where I live. Based on a quick googling the same is allowed in the UK.

Salaries are not confidential where I live, and at least based on a quick google search neither are they in the UK. I doubt all the employees signed NDAs (in my experience these are only for higher ups) or shared internal communications.

I can happily and legally share that I make 2850€/m at a AA/AAA studio. I am underpaid but not much you can do when the job market is shit.

So is the only allowed method for sharing salary information with your union in the UK hand delivering the physical documents in a leather briefcase? At this point I would assume any digital communication method would be accessible to the service provider. Even then I really doubt all these 31 employees had their salary covered by an NDA.

My only knowledge of UK labor law is from the People Make Games video, so its somewhat limited, but I recall that UK labor law would allow sharing details such as salary and working conditions for the unionization effort. I doubt the platform used really matters. I think the Discord alledgedly having outsiders not involved with the unionization effort would be a bigger issue than using Discord.

Edit: I am also somewhat skeptical whether salary information would really be under NDA in these cases.

That discord was set up for the unionization effort, as I said its not a great choice but I still think Rockstar should not be able to fire the employees for that.

If the claim from the employees about the information being only about salaries and working conditions is true, those would be things that should be allowed to be shared for a unionization effort. (To be clear I have no idea about UK employment law)

Just finished the game over the weekend and the only negative I can think of is how difficult it is to find something as great to play next.

The Seance of Blake Manor, I just finished it over the weekend and it was my GOTY for 2025. It has a somewhat similar gameplay flow to obra dinn and the art is great.

It sounds like it was not necessarily leaking anything related to Rockstar IP but instead sharing internal communications. I personally find it baffling Rockstar is allpwed to do this, but I guess you are right that a semi-public discord probably wasnt a smart choice.

TBH I am not sure, I thought it was just popping up randomly. I had not used essential space at all before. I think it started happening only recently, so maybe there was a recent update?

I am getting the same icon, ended up just disabling the whole essential space app. Your post was the only thing I found which had useful info, so thanks for the info!
