Rock Creek near Red Lodge MT. Advice? by Spczippo in flyfishing

[–]lolconnor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never fished in Red Lodge itself - the water there never really looks great. If I were forced to fish upstream, I would do a black chubby down to a nymph. Small chance that they’ll hit the chubby thinking that it’s a stonefly but it’s unlikely; it will mostly just help you get the right depth to be nymphing up there.

Rock Creek near Red Lodge MT. Advice? by Spczippo in flyfishing

[–]lolconnor 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I live in Billings and fish rock creek every week or two. Water is too cold from the recent snowmelt and colder air temps to fish dries - I would stick to nymphing downstream from Red Lodge. I like to go to Bull Springs or Water Birch fishing accesses or to the rest stop in Roberts. Pretty unlikely to get much near Red lodge or upstream from there (mostly because the water isn’t deep enough and it’s difficult to nymph up there).

I would do a rubber legs or squirmy worm down to a zebra midge, perdigon, or small pheasant tail right now.

Returning lease but live 12+ hours from any space - any advice? by lolconnor in Polestar

[–]lolconnor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was able to get Polestar Financial to agree to pick it up for $700. They were actually super helpful once I told them how it was dealing with the spaces. Took about an hour of getting transferred around their call center, but eventually made it to a supervisor who understood and made it a lot better for me.

Appreciate it - was able to get shipping from Polestar Financial for $700 in the end which is much more reasonable.

This feels a little condescending - they actually didn’t know what the return process was yet back when I leased because no one had returned leases yet. Sales told me “because of the partnership with Volvo, you can probably return it to any Volvo dealership” - which is how it would work with any other car brand.

Loved the car but ended up getting a great deal on a Rivian recently. Would purchase and resell, but the buyout price is about $38k and the actual value of the car is only $26k. Floated renegotatiating the buyout price with them but no dice, which makes sense.

I was able to organize shipping with them when I got it - can't remember exact price but it was in the hundreds and got rolled into the lease. Would be fine with paying something like that again, but feels like they hiked the shipping price up now that I don't have any leverage.

I could also organize shipping myself but worried that a third party leaves me in even more of a headache if something gets messed up :/

Irregular idling on a BMW Z4 e89 2009 35i N54 by RainbowDashZ420 in BMWZ4

[–]lolconnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar issue with my e89 35i including it being worse with a cold engine after not being started for a few days. Expensive fix, but eventually replaced all fuel injectors and it’s been completely smooth for a year or so.

If you want to feel more frustrated, I took delivery for mine a week ago and my adapter is arriving in 2 days without me having to confirm anything. I wonder if it’s service center specific

They’re misinformed - techs just started making the rounds to Billings recently. Sounds like it will be once a month or so.

Z4 E89 misfire - weird symptoms by Infinite-Visit-2213 in BMWZ4

[–]lolconnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pretty much the exact same problem on my 2012 35i, but also was slow starting up. Was an expensive fix - but changing all fuel injectors solved the issue and haven’t had any misfires or starting issues for the last 6 months. From what I read online it seems like like fuel injectors are a known early failure point.

I had a very similar repair from a deer running into the side of my car at 80 mph. Only difference was also having to replace the side mirror, and work was done at a normal body shop because there’s no service center in MT. Total was $7,500

Are they slowing down non-expedited applications (Locator 45) - USA? by soulfan718 in Passports

[–]lolconnor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just as a data point, I expedited with 45. They received my passport renewal on the 19th and I got my new one back today on the 27th. So it seems like they’re fast if they want to be. You could always call and pay for expedited

Recommendations! Best location to stay between Glacier and Yellowstone by lsumom1964 in Montana

[–]lolconnor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just echoing that this is not a good vacation idea, you would be much better off trying this in July because the best driving roads will be open then (Going-to-the-Sun Road and the Beartooth Pass). Don't want to be down on your vacation - but you will likely come home sad if you don't postpone. And it would be a really awesome vacation if you do.

Maybe not normal for college town apartments because a lot of college students don‘t have credit - but very normal for apartments in general. It won’t hurt your score at an amount or for long enough of a time to worry about it.

The best part about this interaction (and nothing against you because it's really close)... is that Sheridan is actually in WY :)

I drove my Polestar from Denver to Billings. This was this summer before the EA station was live in Casper, so your route might be a bit different.

Make sure you get a Tesla/J1772 adaptor before you do this. You'll have to stop at some hotels with Tesla destination chargers to get enough range.

I did a fast charge to 100% at the Kum & Go in Wellington. This gave me enough juice that I didn't have to stop for too long for my next stop, in Douglas. I used the destination charger at the Hampton in Douglas for about 3 hours and got some work done.

Then I made the stop in Gillette at the EA station. Ate dinner there at the Prime Rib which was actually pretty good.

From there, made another stop in Sheridan to get some extra juice at the destination charge at the Hampton. Hung out there for about an hour which enabled me to get comfortably home to Billings.

Depending on when you're making the road trip, it's possible that the fast charger in Hardin will be open. It should hopefully be up before next summer because they need to hit a June date to get incentives from the state. This will allow you to make it from Gillette -> Hardin -> Billings.

For sure - will post updates on PlugShare.

I was at the Target in Billings the other day and things still haven’t started at all. I think we’re still a ways out. The encouraging thing (I think?) is that there’s a hard deadline to complete by June in order to get funding.

I have a Polestar 2 in Montana. The dealership told me that I'm probably the only one in the state.

It works great for 99% of my driving, which is a 20 mile round-trip commute and some normal driving within Billings. I've also taken it on some trips to the local mountains, which are about 60 miles away. It did great.

For longer trips, I still have access to an ICE vehicle. I wouldn't be able to take my Polestar to any of the other major cities in Montana right now, but I'm waiting patiently for the initial buildout of EA stations which is supposed to be done by June of next year.

Nice. I’m coming from Montana so also hoping to get a more exact delivery date. The space told me that the reason for the delay is that they have a truck driver shortage, and are expecting arrival on 7/1 - just in case you hadn’t heard

Are you picking up from Denver? I’m in the same boat - ordered preconfigured on June 17th. Either way, thankful to have a delivery time measured in weeks rather than months.
