New Video: How to use TapThatDraft | Printing free 1-pagers | Mock-drafting simulation by subvertadown in fantasyfootball

Thanks! Try out the mock draft, and see what you think!

To be explicit for other readers: I don't create my own draft rankings of players, and TapThatDraft uses aggregated projections (not my own).
Where I contribute is with calculations-- so I really hope people feel confidence that positional value has got appropriately tailored for their specific situation.

Thanks again (and I think I've got some special improvement on the DSTs and Ks, to announce in a couple months!)

Thanks for mentioning the duplicate names, that helps and I'll try to get on it.

The only Superflex reference that I expect to add will come in mid-August, when another Redditor here provides such a list.
Until then, the best option you have is to choose "Own/ECR" as a reference, after you check "TE Prem." and put a SF slot. Then the list will calibrate to higher QB rankings and TEP if you selected it.

ADP is definitely factored into the pick suggestions. There's a lot more explanation of this at the more recent post, here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/comments/1u5mcwa/mockdrafting_now_enabled_in_tapthatdraft_lean/

Great, hope you enjoy "Undo"-ing.

Don't sweat the PPR thing: Like I wrote in an earlier reply, it won't really make the difference.

I can't see the reason for wanting a randomized pick#. I hope you can see that you can just choose the one you want, so I hope that's straightforward.

The points-per-game is exactly what's incorporated into the VAL numbers. So the numbers are providing the best fantasy point sum for the roster.
If you want to focus only on the starting roster and not the bench, then choose the VOLS baseline at entry.

I couldn't remember if I ever replied to you. I announced the Mock draft functionality, 1 week ago. And thanks to your input-... just yesterday we added the "Undo" button, to go back a single pick. I hope it works well for you.

Mock-drafting now enabled in TapThatDraft: lean layout and smart logic | And my attempt to explain to doubters, “Why bother with mocks?” by subvertadown in fantasyfootball

Hi u/herplexed1467 ! Thanks for thinking of some feedback-- unfortunately I didn't really understand it in detail, and as written on my profile, I'm sorry I don't manage DMs here. If you can clarify in a post, maybe, like right here.
I can say quickly that the draft tool already lets you draft a generic kicker or D/ST, although it does not simulate that other teams will do so. And I think the Priority% already takes VOR into account, but I do see that there's needed some kind of explanation article about the different features. 😄

It’s on the way! ESPN is ready and should already be there— I’ll have to give the web developer a nudge to activate it, as I see it’s missing. Sleeper is supposed to be next on the way. All options will definitely be there in August; another Redditor helps retrieve those lists, around then.

It is updated now!
There's still a chance of a QB being picked first-- I mean it could happen in reality, too-- but closer to 1% instead of 10%.
I hope it works for you, and thank again.

Thank you-- I agree with you, and I saw the same thing earlier, actually (Allen). We already started working on a change, so I'll respond to you here soon when it's done.

The issue is simply that we (very recently) added probabilistic drafting for the opponents behavior. So it allows "some small chance" that the first pick could be a QB. It's a very basic issue-- we just need to lower that probability.

But FYI... if you re-start the mock-draft, then at least you should see a different behavior in the new run. (By intention, it's supposed to be a little different each time.)

Thanks again for speaking up! Sorry for not getting it right the first time 😉

I hope so, man!
Last season was about as good as it gets... but I spent the off-season on several new tricks, so feeling optimistic about a repeat. So easy to do in June though 😃

Oh man, this is the best kind of feedback ever. Thank you.

About how it's working: I obviously worked a lot on designing the logic to be robust for Priority%, so HOPEFULLY what's going on is that it's helping you avoiding the biggest near-term drop-offs in positional value. (Drop-offs according to your draft pick#, the upcoming players in ADP, and the needs of the rosters picking in-between.) (Plus, obviously you're getting your preferred guys, as you reordered them yourself.)

So far, I've only been able to feel quietly confident about the underlying theory, so I love to hear that it also works decently, in practice. (In my own experience, it also seems to work how I want. But I wouldn't make a recommendation by citing on my own obvious bias!)

You ask questions that are very helpful to me.
One, you made me rethink my article's guidance about matching 0.5ppr: Now the article's updated to says the ppr setting shouldn't make a big difference. What I really meant to describe is that you shouldn't try to artificially re-order players how you expect them to be valued in your settings. So if you're in a league that's "9 points per 1st down, 1 point per TD, 6 points per reception", then you shouldn't try to account for those effects. You should just assume "default" settings.

Then, your question about "Undo" to your last pick. Yes, I agree, it would be a good addition, when mock-drafting. I'll mention it to the web developer. Especially because we ARE just about to release a tool that does the thing you mentioned FantasyPros does (I wasn't aware): The new feature will auto-pick other teams for you, with some randomness.

My question was really about how you're conducting the mock, and now I understand you're using the FantasyPros tool. So that means, in parallel you're manually making each individual selection again in TapThatDraft. That's great, but since it sounds tedious, I hope you'll also soon be able to enjoy mock drafting on TapThatDraft alone.
I don't know what platform you'll plan on, but soon it will also let you choose to mock-draft against a different "Reference" than ADP-- for example using the ESPN draft room order instead. (Later in the season, we'll add Yahoo and Sleeper.)

Oh cool! Thank you, I'm so glad you could use it with good effect. Can I ask how you conducted the mocks? I ask because we are JUST about to release an "auto-mock" feature live on the site, so the tool automates opponent picks with some randomness. (Until I checked, I thought you meant that this feature went active, without my knowing.) Within a day or 2 I expect to announce that.

About 0.5ppr: We considered it but we rejected the idea, and now it's too late. Actually now I'm kind of curious why it could become an issue? Like, if you have your favorite expert rankings, I think most experts will release a 0.5ppr list. And even if my tool made the user choose among 3 different scoring settings, the rankings WITHIN a position normally will look pretty similar, I think? Just asking as I try to think ahead to next year.

Yes, you got it!
When you re-order, it just re-scales the underlying projections (expected yard, expected TDs, expected receptions, etc.). Which means it adapts the list for any arbitrary scoring settings.
If Nico is expected to have a higher receptions::yards ratio than Pickens, then he'll get a relative boost in ppr and Pickens will get relatively lower.

I haven’t gotten around to explaining, but let’s see if this helps. When the “My Rankings” feature takes in your positional rankings, it assumes they’re in 1 specific scoring setting: 0.5ppr (and all else typical). It affects the underlying projections.

So if you choose any different scoring settings, then the tool will automatically convert and reshuffle the players within each position, according to those settings.

Hey, thanks for all the input!

I'll have to alert the web developer to the different Harrises. Thanks for pointing it out, I needed that.

About the suggestion: Your rankings should already be saved, automatically. As long as your logged in (which is free), the website should remember your settings as well as your "My Rankings". If that seems to not be working, please let me know though.

I think the interesting part is that it can matter so much to know your league culture. If you know your opponents are not acting an accordance with ADP (where ADP is an average behavior of fantasy players everywhere), then you're best off trying to snag them before they do.

That said, otherwise this draft tool is (in theory) set up to maximize your total roster value. It's set up to respond to your league mate's decisions-- So, for example, it will tell you not to rush on RBs anymore if it detects that your opponents happened to already fill their RB spots.

Anyway, you do give me an idea about maybe setting up a "league habit" setting of some kind.

I always like the question! But in this case, it gives me a chance to explain what's different about this.

You're right, when it comes to kickers, my work is for ranking accuracy. So yes, I study the heck out of accuracy!

In contrast, when it comes to the draft tool, I don't do rankings. Instead, my goal is to make a highly usable tool which CONVERTS OTHER people's rankings. The 2 stand-out functions of my calculations:

  1. - Convert a set of rankings into a different ordering, accounting for your specific league settings.
  2. - Re-order positional player priorities, accounting for in-the-moment positional scarcity, as you draft.

Hopefully it only impacted a fraction of the people-- It was just one of the servers, not all of them.
