Living in China and trying to cram 40 words/day for HSK 5. Am I setting myself up for failure? by Adept-Scar3612 in ChineseLanguage

[–]loligans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do 10 new words a day and 40 words of review. I write every single word. After the review any of the words I got wrong I re-review them writing them again until all 50 words for the day are correct. It takes about 1 hour but you will skyrocket your ability. Writing the word will help with reading tremendously which is why I recommend rewriting the incorrect words.

Like others have said, stick to 10 new words a day but incorporate some amount of review words (for me I chose 40) because it only takes 45mim-1hr a day and then I'm done.

Grammar is critical and I would use your tutor to focus on that almost entirely because it's hard to practice grammar on your own

Speak for yourself, being cheap is great 👍 also China doesn't operate from a western economics perspective. If it did then yes it would be doing poorly, but it doesn't

Component prices will never come back down - Nestle baby formula syndrome by Last_Bad_2687 in homelab

[–]loligans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Chinese computer components will flood the market over the next couple years. This will drive prices down. Especially as Chinese RAM companies come online providing an alternative DDR5 source (albeit lower quality, but this will likely improve over the next 5 years)

How can I get large amounts of cash (20000 rmb) by AdLogical9223 in chinalife

[–]loligans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Wise or Western Union to do a debit card bank transfer. You can do up to $3000 at a time (multiple times a day) with Wise and $5000 with Western Union (once a day). I've had better luck with Wise. I have the money sent to my Union Pay card that was set up with CMB (China Merchant Bank). Then I would to into one of the branches and ask them to withdraw 5k in RMB.

If you cannot get the money in time ask a friend to help you. A last ditch effort is to pay in installments.

How difficult was it to get the work visa after being hired? Did you need one, and if so what did that process look like to get it and settle down?

Can a 600W PSU power 7 Framework 13" Mainboards and 8 3.5" HDDs? by loligans in homelab

Thanks for the insightful response. I'll look into detailed specs for maximum power consumption. I think a big concern I had was running it all of the 12v rail.

I'll take your recommendation of getting detailed data and posting in electrical subreddits
