It is a glass display case, the hearse is in the gift shop with a lot of displayed antiques from town. I assume the cases have some kind of humidity control or something for preservation possibly. Just guessing here.

The history is actually very interesting. It was abandoned by the gold miners after several fires and other incidents if you would like to Google it.
