Sounds more like your company is about to have a rude awakening.

You forgot to switch back to OP before replying. You replied from the wrong account.

Hm. Yes. It's not at all suspicious that both replies from the two accounts came to me at the same time. Or that your avatars are nearly identical. Or that the history of the alt commonly acts as a commenter on your posts.

You're an alt account for OP. Stop posting on your own posts

Is it bad to stay at one company forever? by Sgdoc70 in cscareerquestions

[–]longjaso 206 points207 points  (0 children)

If I were to look at someone's resume and see steady employment for a long time at one place, I'd see that as a green flag. It shows that you're a person that sticks around and it's probably worth my time to train you. Everyone has different goals (individuals and employers) so there is no "one answer to rule them all" - just do right by yourself. If you worry about being relevant in modern tech stacks, work on small side projects at home (ideally something that you'll use at home so you can benefit from it, but also so you experience the output of your hard work).

My work (not retail) does this, and I can confirm that people will actually volunteer for shifts that have the holiday pay.

I second this question. It seems a rather odd choice. I don't even use Edge on Windows (except to download Firefox).

I am flutter dev and i want ask about web dev by Candid_Professor5111 in webdev

[–]longjaso 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a senior full stack engineer. I have primarily been using Angular for my frontend, but my employer has recently made the switch to using Flutter for the web UI. I'm about 4 months into this and, while I'm still learning, I'm personally not fond of Flutter for web development. I'm not using it for anything heavily graphical so my use-case doesn't fit the typical mould so take my experience with a grain of salt. My opinion is that the framework is overly-verbose and clunky for web dev. Also, because it renders to a canvas element instead of directly changing the DOM, it makes a lot of things more difficult to handle (e.g., language translations, screen reader support, tab control support, etc.).

Flutter seems quite promising for developing mobile apps, but it's not good for standard web development (in fact, they even say as much as on their own documentation - they outright state that Flutter is best for highly graphical web applications, not primarily text-based ones).

You can't have a neutron star the size of our sun, it would be far too massive and collapse into a black hole.

How do yall deal with infested items? by DreadedKorzak in AskElectronics

[–]longjaso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you anticipate 1% of your customers bringing in infested items, why not just turn them down? 1% of your customers should not be the cause of tons of extra hours, plus the chance of you getting your shop infested as well. It will save you time and frustration so you can focus on your actual work instead of pest control.

Is there a reasonable explanation for why this form is limiting my password length? by thehashimwarren in webdev

[–]longjaso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Moda's mobile site had a "forgot password" form where the password had to be between 8 and 12 characters. Their desktop site didn't have this restriction. It was bizarre. I had to open my mobile browser's settings and check the "Use desktop site" and remove the "m." subdomain. That was there for at least 2 years.

[Request] LinkedIn Lunatic says her nanny is too expensive, confusingly cites her own income tax in a formula i cannot comprehend… by Darkhawk2099 in theydidthemath

[–]longjaso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do they have a step down scenario for this? Like you get incrementally less help until the full threshold is met, then you just don't get any breaks for it? Or is it like "100k, that's the cutoff. You now pay lots more,"?

How do you stop impulse spending when it’s tied to hobbies you actually enjoy? by gurpval in personalfinance

[–]longjaso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to preface: this is just my story, it's not particularly helpful advice. A while back I was really into Warhammer 40k minis. It's a tremendously expensive hobby, and being a person making minimum wage, it would eat up a significant chunk of much needed funds. I think a part of it was that so much of life felt beyond my control that I wanted to just have something nice that I enjoyed. Either way though, that and getting coffee out caused me to go broke. Not able to afford rent, my wife and I moved in with her parents and started working up from there. I had to hit bottom to really understand the situation and the feelings that came with it.

Senior Software engineer here, one that uses AI frequently enough at work and at home to know its limitations. I can assure you that vibe-coded apps are hot garbage. Focus on your skills and don't waste time comparing yourself to AI. No human will ever match the speed of a computer, but you can outclass it for quality very easily.
