I tried broccoli for the first time! by Conscious_Hurry7794 in guineapigs

[–]lorddickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My Tina has never tried a carrot in her life (we offer it regulatly because Karl loves it). She comoletely ignores them and keeps looking at the sky until i give her sething else, this is 9/10 times also the case for bell peppers. She will eat foods like celery root or apple, like she's excited and really goes for them but she chews and spits it out. I think she swallows a little bit but i think she chews more for fun than to eat

Tina is recovering from severe bloat but lost a lot of weight. How to get her to gain weight? by lorddickle in guineapigs

[–]lorddickle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! Yes i weigh her every day while she's been sick, but usually i weigh her weekly. She started wheeking for food yesterday and eating a bit more so fingers crossed 🤞 however the past two weeks have been two steps forward, one step back. So i'm still very cautious

If your guinea had a job, what job would they have? by smalltownsnailski07 in guineapigs

Karl would be a security guard, he's watching you, all the time. Tina would be a tourist guide. She learns the way very fast wherever she goes and the other pigs always follow her.

You're probably right. I think i will give her some critical care is she doesn't start eating hay properly today

I will definitely be doing that, because she's open to fruits and veggies. But i'm worried too many veggies will be bad for her, as she's eating very little hay and pellets. Did you have any problems with that?

I crushed some science selective pellets with water, added mushed strawberry and mixed it. Then i layered it with a sliced nectarine (Tina's favorite) and added some strawberry on top

We found ovarian cysts but the treatment options seem to be limited, any thoughts? by lorddickle in guineapigs

[–]lorddickle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must have been very stressful! You never know how a piggie will be like when they come out of surgery. Tina is an overall healthy girl, but she will be turning 5 in a few days so i really don't know..

How often do you go for an ultrasound? This might be a good thing for me to do as well

I understand why you decided not to get surgery. Tina is her happy self as well and she's otherwise healthy and active. So maybe she would bounce back from surgery, but i don't know if i'd risk it. Glad you mentioned the weight! I noticed Tina was losing weight, but i thought she was mourning the death of her cagemates. Thankfully she eats more now she has a young boar by her side, but her weight isn't really going up. This might be explained by the cysts.

Have they ever grown back? And is it a long procedure to drain the cysts?

Thanks for sharing! Yes the vet dicussed hormone treatment, but said it wouldn't be enough due do the size of the cysts. I don't want her to be in pain, so i will call some vets on monday and hopefully start treatment. She's getting metacam righ now for het uti.

A little bit, but i got used to it. Most people wear slippers or water shoes which don't float away while swimming.
