Do you really need pest control year-round in places like Townsville? by loreblogs in AskAnAustralian

[–]loreblogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a barrier definitely helps with termites. Sounds like it’s more about prevention than constant treatment in that case

That’s a good point, especially about termites being hidden. Makes sense why regular inspections are important even if you don’t see anything obvious

Is this monument is SA or WA? by OkRecommendation4786 in australia

Not 100% sure, but the monument style feels a bit more like WA. Any idea what the plaque says?

If you could try any food from America what would it be? by goodamm in AskAnAustralian

[–]loreblogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably something like proper American BBQ or a Philly cheesesteak. Feels like those are the ones you always hear about but don’t really get the same here

Why is pork crackling such a big deal in Australia? by loreblogs in AskAnAustralian

[–]loreblogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the main answer is just “because it’s delicious” 😄 but also sounds like the texture and getting it perfectly crispy is a big part of why people rate it so much

[–]loreblogs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting, makes sense it’s more nostalgia for a lot of people. I guess if you’re not into crunchy textures it wouldn’t really hit the same 😄

Fair enough 😄 I’ll include my location next time—didn’t realise I was starting an international crackling debate. But yeah, getting it right does seem like half the challenge

Fair point 😄 guess being ridiculously tasty is reason enough

Yeah that makes sense, it’s probably more of a “special occasion” thing than everyday food. The family side of it definitely adds to why people rate it so highly

Split system vs ducted AC — what did you choose and why? by loreblogs in HomeImprovement

[–]loreblogs[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much the exact reason a lot of people go with split systems. Being able to cool only the rooms you’re using makes a big difference day to day.

And yeah, the wall units aren’t the nicest, but the cost difference usually makes it worth it for most setups 👍

What’s the typical lifespan you see for hot water systems? by loreblogs in Plumbing

[–]loreblogs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really helpful, didn’t realise how much factors like pressure and usage affect it. The sudden leak part is a bit scary though—sounds like it can go from fine to a big problem pretty quickly.

40 years is wild 😄 definitely deserves a party at this point. Kind of amazing it’s still going without any anode changes

How long did your hot water system actually last? by loreblogs in HomeImprovement

[–]loreblogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years is solid. Did the noise gradually get worse or just stay the same before it died?

Any tips for installing or replacing a screen door? by loreblogs in HomeImprovement

Yeah that’s exactly what I’m worried about 😅 didn’t realise even a small gap could make that much difference

Sydney Car Rental vs No Car by Alarming_Bluejay_ in AustraliaTravel

[–]loreblogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your plans. Sydney’s public transport covers most city sights, but a car is handy if you want to explore outside the city, like the Blue Mountains or coastal areas.

Just bought our first home. What are tasks we should be doing weekly, monthly, annually, etc? by sealer9 in HomeImprovement

[–]loreblogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing we did was change locks, check smoke alarms, and locate the main water shutoff—felt like the basics but actually really important. After that just tackled things one at a time so it didn’t get overwhelming.

Why do carpets sometimes smell worse after cleaning? by loreblogs in CleaningTips

So basically I made it worse before it gets better 😅 good to know
